Small claims - has anyone brought a case and won?

I have a small claims case going at the moment and am debating how far to take it. It is going to be "heard" by a magistrate although I do not have to be there to put in my twopenceworth.

It relates to the return of a security deposit.

Anyone got a story to relate? I feel like giving up at the moment and dropping the whole thing. It has been said that the judges decision relies very much on what sort of mood he/she is in. After all the hassle I have been through, I'll be gutted if we don't win it.

We have one going at the moment - against Smart (cars) and also the garage Smart of Coventry. We are lucky though as we can go all the way with it as we don't have to pay legal costs - DH's firm is doing it.

My Dad has just won a case. He did a job at someone's house and she didn't pay. She hasn;t followed the court order though so the next stage is recovery.
