In my previous flat, there was a smoke alarm and a Carbon Monoxide alarm. Got home from work one day to find the CO one beeping. Took it off the wall, the instructions on the base said if the alarm sounds, call the Fire Brigade. As I clearly wasn't dying of CO poisoning, I didn't want to call 999, so looked up the landline number of the local fire station. Spoke to a nice chap, explained the problem and that it wasn't any kind of emergency. He said he'd send someone to take a look. I imagined one person in a car, then 5 mins later I heard the sirens coming along the main road ...

Two fire engines, firefighters all togged up. About three of them came up to my flat, the rest hung around outside. I kept telling then it wasn't an emergency and I hadn't called 999! Mortified! It must have been a quiet shift and they were bored.

P.S. The CO alarm was at the end of it's usable period, they said to chuck it away.

Grin Cinn, that's a good story. We once ended up with a living room full of firefighters too after burning aubergine fritters. My friend lived in a block of flats with a silent alarm link to the fire station, in a dodgier part of northerncity, blue lights flashing by the windows were the norm so we ignored them. The first inkling we had there was a problem was a loud knock on the door, and at least 8 of them strode in, in full gear. They all needed to inspect the fritters too for some reason.

Badders you've exhausted me with your list of jobs. Put your feet up, have a cup of tea.

I thought Minions was crap.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 26/10/2015 14:47

I'm sure it was you they wanted to inspect Elk Wink

FancyFancy · 26/10/2015 15:44

Had the firefighters out at a clients once - they were connected to the station so when the alarm went off they were called automatically. We were working late, only us & the cleaner left & as we were very near an exit with no sign of fire/smoke we carried on. The firefighters turned up & were all cbf at us for not moving & we (well me & the other female team members) were all slack-jawed with lust. Blush

Cinnamoncookie · 26/10/2015 15:46

They probably wanted to know why in the name of God you would cook aubergine fritters

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 26/10/2015 16:02

I used to buy a calendar with real firefighters and cats, it was for charity, here's some pics Wink

Evening all < flopsy knee bob > I liked Minions too. Not as much as despicable me, but it was entertaining enough, esp. at the beginning and end.

Have had a busy day at work doing stats. Then re-doing them. Off out at LocalActivity with DS tomorrow.

Hoping for more sleep tonight - DH woke me at midnight getting into bed, then again at 1am when he realised he'd forgotted something to do with work , then DS woke at 4am, and joined me at 5am, and... Confused it's all a bit of a blur.

Badders123 · 26/10/2015 18:33

Watching the Lord's debate the tax credit cuts.
Ds2 just asked me "what are wankers, mum?"

Team Aramis, should you wish to listen to Señor Cabrera talking to you about poomas and little fluffy ducklings on your MP3 device-of-choice, the full soundtrack of episode one of Patagonia will shortly be in the Sound Booth (when it finishes uploading). PM for the web address is you don't have it (and then bookmark it).
I'll do episodes 2 and 3 in due course, and if there is a particular section you want isolated as a separate file/ringtone etc, let me know episode and time, and what it is.
P.S. The mp3 is fucking massive

FancyFancy · 26/10/2015 22:52

Think you may get a request for the commentary on the spider mating!
