Seen any good films recently?

I'd like to recommend a website that's good for a laugh - the Four Word Film Review - www.fwfr.com

You can find four-word reviews for absolutely any film you can think of, and submit your own. Some are fantastically entertaining...suggest looking up Lord of the Rings and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon for starters.

What's the best film you've seen recently?

on my own with a beer in the middle of the afternoon watching will smith in 'Ali'. Not my usual cup of tea, but what bliss....!

Enid · 03/05/2002 13:58

Saw The Man that Wasnt There (Coen Brothers) on dvd recently and really enjoyed it.

jinna · 03/05/2002 16:09

Went to see Bend it with Beckham and I thought it was great - I'm from an Indian family so a lot of the jokes hit home - I wonder if people from other cultures found it equally funny?

elwar · 03/05/2002 16:19

jinna - I was thinking of seeing BILB, is there much about women's footy in it, or it that just a medium for the storyline? I'm reluctant to trust the media with portraying women's football, after the betrayal that was 'Playing the Field'.

WideWebWitch · 03/05/2002 16:35

Loved BILB, Jinna and found it funny but my ex-DH is Indian (I'm English) so I recognised lots of it. Very funny, sweet film, loved it. Elwar, the women's football is a medium for the storyline IMO but I'd say the film is still worth seeing.

Going to see About a Boy with dd tonight. Mmm, Hugh Grant!

sniksnak · 04/05/2002 22:42

Mmmmmm mmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm Hugh Grant!!! Is the film any good? The soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy is excellent, just bought the CD today.

LOL at all the mmmmmm's, SnikSnak! Yes, we really enjoyed it. HG was so right for the part of Will and the little boy who played Marcus was just gorgeous. He had an incredibly expressive face. Some really good laughs in it, too.

WideWebWitch · 05/05/2002 10:01

Oooh agree with the mmms re Hugh Grant. Haven't seen the film, but dreamt I had the other day, weird! Didn't fancy Hugh until he did his sexy Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones's diary: that moment when the lift doors open to reveal him looking wolfishly handsome, wow, hellllo!

Rara · 05/05/2002 20:39

Saw About a Boy last weekend with dh and we both loved it. Dh even admitted to tears in his eyes near the end (he's become such a wuss since becoming a dad - bless!)

Paula1 · 06/05/2002 17:51

I had to watch Oceans Eleven through 1 eye, as just as I settled down to watch a contact lens popped out of my eye for some reason. Not so easy to swoon!

Lizzer · 07/05/2002 14:20

Got The Others out on Sunday night, was really looking forward to it but because I knew there was a 'twist in the tale' I totally guessed what it was before the end - gutted! It was ok, not as scary as I thought it would be, but I watched Fargo for the 1st time recently too and that was fantastic...

Enid · 07/05/2002 18:27

Lizzer, I think I have guessed the twist already and I haven't even seen it! So I won't get it out - if I'm right it will completely spoil it I presume.

Fargo is in my all time top 10.

susanmt · 07/05/2002 22:19

Poor you Paula1 - I have to admit swooning all through Ocean's Eleven although I find Matt Damon a little disconcerting as he looks just like my youngest brother!!!!

I wonder if you look like me then susan - Matt Damon looks just like my middle brother!!!

Bexi · 09/05/2002 10:58

Hi-ya, I've not posted for ages but I could not resist this thread. I'm with Enid, we watched The Man Who Wasn't There the other day and both totally loved it. Another great film that has come out on video and dvd recently is Amelie. It's now in my top 10, it's really lovely and funny and a bit weepy in places, definitely recommended.

As for The Others, I work in a video shop and when people have been returning it the reports have ranged from "great" to "absolute rubbish". A customer annoyingly told me the ending the other night so I don't think I'm going to bother watching it. Other recent films to avoid according to customers - Jeepers Creepers and 51st State. DH and I are going to the cinema on Friday but we can't decide what to watch, I'd like to see About A Boy but I can't persuade him.

bells2 · 09/05/2002 11:35

Also agree on the Man Who Wasn't There. I loved it and an also a big fan of Fargo. Was very surprised that the Man etc. got such lukewarm / mixed reviews.

Lizzer · 09/05/2002 12:31

Hello Bexi-not fallen off the face of the planet then?! Enjoy your night out whatever you see...

Attention! For all those who own Matt Damon lookalike brothers can you please all get them and form an orderly queue outside my house please, many thanks...

Oh and Amelie IS brilliant, have to wait to see Man who wasn't there cos ppp (possible perfect partner) wants to own it on dvd so no point in me paying good money to rent it, I'll wait to see it at his house [Lizzer swoons, sighs & slopes off to daydream about him...}

PS Bexi I'll drop your Fargo video off v soon, thanks!

susanmt · 10/05/2002 15:18

Probably not much like, Enid, as he's actually my stepbrother!!!

Tillysmummy · 10/05/2002 15:22

Any Star Wars fans here ? I can't wait to see Attack of the Clones.

jenny2998 · 13/05/2002 21:46

Hmm, I wanna see Attack of the Clones too...but only for Ewan McGregor....

emsiewill · 13/05/2002 21:51

I'm not one to show off (not usually got anything to show off about!), but I'm going to the (Welsh) premiere of the new Star Wars film on Wednesday! How exciting, I might even be on the local news! All the big (Welsh) stars are going to be there - newsreaders, radio presenters......even rugby players. I know, I know, it's all very 'C' list, but it's as near to glamour as I'm ever going to get!
