Can I make a bit of a plea to those of you who enjoy posting upsetting stories?

Can you please NOT put the subject of the shocking tale in the title?

Can you just put "An upsetting news story concerning children" or something similar?

Because I'm all for asking MN Towers to have a "Without In The News" button because I hate hate hate hearing about the terrible things that people do to babies and children and I don't want to see thread titles like that.

If that makes me blinkered, etc, then so be it.

Also, why do people feel the need to post links to stuff like this when it's just for people to go "oh how sad" to? I can understand if it's a policy thing, or there's a campaign that needs to be undertaken - but just for people to feel sad? Why?

A good idea to bump this thread every so often.
I will keep in watched list so I can do again in the future.

I see, got my wires crossed, I tried to get the thread deleted, but MN towers said no,as there are valid points on both sides.

It was a rather blunt thread title. And everytime I see it I wince.

Could we have a 'change the thread title' button so mistakes could be corrected?

Aitch · 15/08/2007 13:31

i think i may be, yes, Fio. i have a toddler, i don't like to think of her or one of her wee pals being stabbed to death. if i watch the news, i'm watching the news, so that's different.

i don't think it's too much to ask people to think before they post. truthfully, i've changed OPs because i've thought 'x or y is going through some shit and may not want to read that'.

CatIsSleepy · 15/08/2007 13:32

Doodle-I find that annoying too...

I've asked people before to think about their choice of thread title before they post. I posted on the recent thread saying the same thing.

I know people get upset/offended by different things. E.g. swearing in thread titles doesn't really bother me. But I'm willing to accept that others are bothered and I try to be considerate - and also expect others to do the same.

hunkermunker · 15/08/2007 18:46

I am made of a mixture of crystal and tissue paper, Fio, so, yes, I am that fragile

OP posts:
Desiderata · 15/08/2007 18:50

Well, I obviously fall into the non-fragile camp with regard to thread titles.

That said, and I agree with hunker's OP on this, I can't see the point. What are we supposed to say? All the sad faced emoticons, and the OMG, and OFFS, and OMFG!!!

There's nothing to debate, which renders it pointless.

Peachy · 15/08/2007 18:58

Being a sad loner with no life, I do sometimes want to share- much like zippui's original post

but agree the titles are too much a lot of the time
