How do you wear heels!

Jennisaurus · 11/05/2004 17:06

I admit it. I am v.v.v.sad. I cannot for the life of me wear heels, I own loads of trendy trainers and flatties and wear flat loafers for work, but heels kill me.

My DD is being Christening next month and I have a lovely outfit, but I need to wear my pointy stilettos (which kill me) with it.

I have never been able to wear heels without being reduced to excruciating agony after 15 minutes, it feels like the soles of my feet are burning. I want to be glam!

I only need to be able to wear them for a few hours, not all day!

Help this sad sad person. I feel so old before my time

Actually DD is being Christened NOT christening

would kitten heels be OK with your outfit? you might find them more comfy.

Jennisaurus · 11/05/2004 17:09

I can't wear any heels Tried chunky, kitten, stiletto. They all hurt like hell

Jennisaurus - they sell insoles now which you put in the shoes to cushion the soles of your feet. Sounds like just what you need. Can't for the life of me think what they are called but I would have thought most shoe repair places/ Boots would do them?

Crunchie · 11/05/2004 17:12

Flat Ballet style pumps are very trendy at the mo. Otherwise my only suggestion would be go and look around expensive shoe shops. Seriously no shoes should be so uncomfortable, they can't fit correctly. When you find good fitting heels they should be OK for a few hours (all day can still be a killer) I wear stilleto boots a lot which are comfy, I can walk around all day in some of them. I also have a few pairs of 3" heels which I can do an alright boogie in. Check out the fit (BTW none of mine are hugely expensive I spend between £30 and £50 on shoes) M&S have quite wide fitting ones that work for me quite often.

lou33 · 11/05/2004 17:13

Can you slip a comfy pair into the car to wear there and back, and only put your heels on when you are being observed? I am the same btw. the only way I have got used to wearing heels again is by persevering with the pain. Foot injuries are likely to occur the first few times, but after that it subsides.

Failing that, slippers?

Thomcat · 11/05/2004 17:14

I don't. Comfort comes first with me and anyone who says heels are comfy is lying!

I do do kitten heels if I have to but that is it.

louee · 11/05/2004 17:28

well i've got to admit I own loads of heels all 3" 4" and 5" i can wear them all day and no discomfort, however i own loads of trainers and flats too but heels are so glam i love them .mmm actually i need to buy some more....lol.
I find that if you wear them a little at a time you can get used to them whenever i buy a new pair i always wear them round the house before i go out in them, just to get used to them, also it is true that more expensive heels are most comfy its true.see how you get on if not then you can get some seriously classy trainers diesel do some really sweet ones (about £65 though).good luck and let us know how you get on .

My mom brought some gel filled things that you stick to the bottom of your shoe and she thinks they are brilliant, won't wear heels without them now. I'm almost positive she had them from Boots.

Jennisaurus · 11/05/2004 17:32

I've got diesel, puma (x2), and adidas trainers, and also I have ballet pumps (buying some new ones soon).

Actually thats quite sad isn't it, to have that many flat shoes

louee · 11/05/2004 17:34

nah a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes !!!!! keep on buying !!!!!

miranda2 · 11/05/2004 17:54

I second the insoles thing, I find heels really uncomfortable (even 1" stacked trainers put a lot of pressure on the ball of my foot), but the insoles are great. You can get whole foot ones or just toe/ball of foot ones (which would be better in most summer shoes as they wouldn't show at any open side bits nearer the back).

I love love heels, as I'm always trying to look taller and thinner than I am. I live by the theory 'you get what you pay for'. You must try on many different pairs, and you'll find the ones that are comfortable for you, although they may be expensive. Some will fit better than others. I definitely think that the chunkier heels or platforms are more comfortable than the stilettos. Platforms which are strappy or are clear don't look as chunky, but still give you the heel, if you want.

When I had to wear heels for a wedding recently (def not my usual footwear) I practised round the house for a few days beforehand. Which was fine till on the day I got the heel stuck in the grating in church..cool ! You've either got it or you haven't.

Beccarollover · 11/05/2004 18:42

ahhhhhhh "burning balls" I call it - you can get something called Party Feet - for just this problem

noddy5 · 11/05/2004 19:20

wedges look nice and aren't uncomfortable at all but sometimes it's worth the pain for the wiggle!

motherinferior · 12/05/2004 09:36

I'm with Thomcat, but even more so. Have small, flat feet and haven't tried heels for about - gulp - 22 years.

oliveoil · 12/05/2004 11:15

I look like a drag queen in heels, CANNOT walk properly in them at all. Probably because I am tall and have never really worn them (apart from trying to get into pubs at 15).

I think those gel things are by Scholl and you can get them from Boots.

discordia · 12/05/2004 11:27

Glad I'm not the only one who can't wear them! Had a pair of stillettos when I was about 14 but cannot wear any kind of heels now! In fact, shoes have to be laced firmly to my foot! How glam. Hate shopping for shoes as they all have heels or are black and I don't wear black. Jennisauras, perhaps you should get your photo taken in your pointy shoes having worn them for 5 mins then just take them off.

bundle · 12/05/2004 11:27

I LOVE Camper shoes, but they're not really heels as such, just funky..

Miriam2 · 12/05/2004 11:41

Oooh Bundle, they're fab!

motherinferior · 12/05/2004 11:41

Bundle, you are soooooo my twin!

tigermoth · 13/05/2004 00:01

oh yes, camper heels are it. I can't wear heels ususally but my camper boots have a bit of a heel and I walk all over the place in them.

marthamoo · 13/05/2004 00:06

Oooh bundle...why did you post that link? I want! Not the twin ones though...sorry, but they are odd shoes. Everyone would say "hey, did you know you've got odd shoes on?"

(You're going to tell me you've got a pair now aren't you...?)
