It's a new term so early to bed for the little darlings & back to the Muskeperving for us wenches. New pupils always welcome if you are taking Musketeers A-Level. You 4 new boys in leather can come & sit at the front where I can keep an eye on you And no guns in class. Now FOCUS you lot.

Cin I have given up with matching pants and just wear black ones all the time with whatever bra. Much easier Grin

to everyone. I have totally lost the plot on who is who, I will have to work it out over the next few days.

DS2 is about to embark on the joys of Biff and Chip - I'm praying he is as quick as DS1 was, we were through the other side pretty fast, although I did then read a LOT of them helping with reading in YR and Y1. I can't believe my baby is going to start school, I am going to come home on Monday morning and have a massive snotty sob I think!

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 03/09/2015 23:57

I have just googled Nico Roche. OMG the thighs...!

FancyFancy · 03/09/2015 23:59

I know ali Grin. And he speaks french. And as comtess said, lovely eyes...

The eyes are a bit sappy. I will stick with the legs Grin

FancyFancy · 04/09/2015 00:07

Once I'm done with them, I saw them first!

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 04/09/2015 07:32

I agree with Ali - gave up on matching years ago and just go with black everything. Unless I am at work, then need to wear a white bra under shirts/ white top. But hate white pants so can't do matching...

Am impressed by all wenches who do match.

Also love the picture of dog in armour, but have forgotten which wench posted it!

MadamedeChevreuse · 04/09/2015 07:34

Morning.

Wtf is HHDDGUYGG thingy?

A serious question - I've heard you all mamy times say how much you hate biff chip and kipper. Ds doesnt use it so I am not familiar. Can you explain why it is so awful? Is it more than it's just an early reader with basic language? (Which is the nature of the thing...) eg are they MORE boring than other readers, old fashioned, etc?

Im interested for reasons.

Thank you! Flowers

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 07:58

Madame...the stories are boring, the characters are little gits, there is the token ethnic child, the adults all look like Roald Dahl baddies and generally they are just shit. And dint get me started on the premise of the project x books!
Ds2 (5 at the time) dreaded reading the damn things.
And I think it's very wrong that they make older kids with literacy difficulties read them...they made my ds1 hate reading even more than he already did.
HHGTTG = hitch hikers guide to he Galaxy.
I think he will love the dirk gently books too.
Off frocery shopping this morning. Then waiting for the boiler man.
Then washing. Obv.

FancyFancy · 04/09/2015 08:04

Morning

The HHGG etc thing is Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy madame

Most of the problem with Biff & Chip is that yes, it is an early reader (well for me anyway) - basic language, repetition etc. Also I suppose that it is a series - so same characters, illustration style, writing style etc, so no variety. Being a scheme it's also very 'structured' - careful progression & starts to feel formulaic. I don't know enough to say whether it's a good reading scheme or not (I'm sure teacher wenches will have a more informed opinion), but as an adult it's more like reading a textbook than a story!

Essay over. I need something to raise my spirits now

Oh and yes to what badders says re: tokenism & overly PC blandness. Must seem very 'babyish' to any older children who need a reading scheme.

LetUsPrey · 04/09/2015 08:19

Morning wenches.

It's Friiiiiiiiiiidaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

Also very impressed with wenches with matching bras and kecks.

What the wenches said about Biff Chip and bastard Kipper. Thankfully, DS2's school ditched them for him earlier in infants than for DS1 because I don't think they were actually helping him much.

More ep8

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 04/09/2015 08:23

Agree with what other wenches said about Biff, chip etc. The token ethnic children appear in such an excruciatingly contrived way.

They feel very out of date, and as others have said are boring.

I keep thinking we are finished with them and then another bastarding level appears from nowhere!

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 04/09/2015 08:24

Sorry have looked back, so thanks Helen for armour PIC!

MadamedeChevreuse · 04/09/2015 08:29

what dont you like about project x bads? Grin

MadamedeChevreuse · 04/09/2015 08:30

Thanks everyone else re bck btw...

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 04/09/2015 09:01

I quite like Project X Grin

DS1 has been presented with a fascinating book about Prairie Dogs as his current reading book this year. He had been free reading for 18 months in infants so it's a bit of a shock to be back to a reading scheme. I have learned about burrows and tunnels though..

Shopping delivery later, more washing. And then, great excitement because DS2's teacher and TA are coming for a home visit later. He is doing loops round the house (visit is at 4pm!!!), I am praising my foresight in booking it for the day after the cleaner comes Grin

IssyStark · 04/09/2015 09:22

Morning all!

Popping in to let you know am still alive but still snotty and plague-ridden.

Am about 5 pages behind but did notice mention of Biff and Chip above: yes they are boring but could me much worse and be Peter and Jane or Janet and John.

Anyway, must try to struggle through work today (would be at home with my lemsip said, dozing on the sofa if it weren't for bloody deadlines).

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 09:57

I actually find it offensive that these people think boys need "special" books.
Why?
Why not just write really engaging interesting books for all?
Ds1 hated project x and I'm not even going there with ds2.
I'm getting him some start wars first readers for Xmas instead (which is what project x is trying to emulate, albeit very badly)
I would always say to anyone with young kids..get them listening to Roaild Dahl, Dr suess, Julia Donaldson...books with engaging characters that are funny.
The big breakthrough with ds1 was the dinosaur cove books and then the HTTYD books. He loved them and devoured the whole series.
Anything that will peak their interest..so comic type books like asterix are forms better for boys who are reluctant readers.

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 09:58

Ds2s current one is a story about dodgems (?)

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 09:58

Oh god, you don't write biff, chip and twatty do you!? ????

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 04/09/2015 10:04

Badds I hadn't thought of them as being particularly for boys, just a different story - all the DCs read them at our school.

We were very lucky with DS1, he has always been a keen reader. I am realistic about the fact that we can't necessarily expect the same with DS2, but we will see.

Morning.

ApricotCrush · 04/09/2015 10:33

Morning all!

Brew and Cake for all wenches in need.

I haven't a clue about Biff and Chip, HHGTTG or Nico Roche. Confused

All my underwear is white, black or skin coloured, and doesn't necessarily match. Hmm

I really must get stuff done today, jobs are piling up. People keep giving me mending/alteration jobs.

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 12:43

Ali...project x was specially designed for boys to encourage reading. Says so on the ort website and on the blurbs.
Infuriates me.
Coz girls don't like sci if, right?
Grr.

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 12:47

Grocery shop done.
Boiler man been - all ok.
Took mum to town as I needed some menopause vits and we had a coffee.
Then have come home and cleaned the loos, put another load on and one in the dryer. Weather here quite cold and very overcast.
Completely forgot I am going to a fashion show tonight! My memory is getting awful!
My ds2 has a range of books to choose from the school library...so from 2.2-2.5 and he can choose what he wants within that range then he does a computer quiz on the book in question when he had finished.
I will send Dh to pick ds2 up later.
