This is an emergency.

I decided tonight I fancied some Lambrusco. I have so far not been successful in opening it. I have used cloths, tea towels and run under hot water. I have seperated the lid from the other bit IYSWIM. I know my taste in wine is dodge tonight but it was sooo cheap. What else can I try other than the humilation of going round to a neighbour to ask them? DP out till gone 11!!!

nutcracker · 23/11/2006 20:43

Have u got any rubber gloves ?? If so, put those on and then try.

I takje it the top twists off ?

nutcracker · 23/11/2006 20:43

LOL Zeph, great minds.

Cappuccino · 23/11/2006 20:43

what kind of lid does it have?

what state is it in now?

can you just shove a sharp object through the top?

MrsMills · 23/11/2006 20:43

It's a screw top yes? If the lid is made out of quite thin tin couldn't you try to put a corkscrew through it?

Carmenere · 23/11/2006 20:44

It's a screw cap, yes?(I wouldn't know because I wouldn't drink it but I respect your right to)

Twinkie1 · 23/11/2006 20:44

If its in a screw top bottle stap it with a screw driver and make a big enough hole to pur it out of!!!

I have to say that I have been desperate enough before to try and hacksaw the top of a bottle off - fucking stupid thing to do nearly killed myself hacking away at the bottle with ablunt saw - and did I actually think I was going to drink it after I had hacked the glass into little pieces -ooohhhh no not before filtering it through some kitchen paper!!!! Did I say I was desperate?????

zephyrcat · 23/11/2006 20:44
Grin
Flossam · 23/11/2006 20:45

No rubber gloves. I get allergic. off to try with a corkscrew, it seems quite thick though I've really hurt my hand!! You can all have a glass if I get it off!

Sorry Flossam - but this thread has made melaugh out loud. Where else would you find a woman desperate for a drink posting for advice on how to open the bottle!!! I love it!!!!

PS - Hope you've managed to have a drink now!!!!

nutcracker · 23/11/2006 20:45

I had a bottle of Lambrini explode once, i was devestated lol.

MrsMills · 23/11/2006 20:46

errrrr thanks but no thanks, you can have that all to yourself

nannyme · 23/11/2006 20:46

Got any big scissors with the grippy bit inside the arm part?

charliecat · 23/11/2006 20:47

Did you get it for 96p in Tescos?

tribpot · 23/11/2006 20:49

Hit the lid with the spoon a few times, around the edge. I hope (sort of) it works!

merlin · 23/11/2006 20:49

any luck yet? (as I slowly sip my lovely cool glass of Chardonnay

Flossam · 23/11/2006 20:49

ahhhh. Corkscrew worked a treat. Not sure if the pressure of my very stylish drink was making it so hard to open, as once I had pierced the lid it cam off beautifully. Thank you soooo much everyone.

Thank goodness now my neighbours will have no idea of my poor taste in wine. Unfortunately the same can not be said here!

Twinkie, yes that truely is desperate!

Anyone want a glass then?
