Are you often late for stuff?

If you mind being late, why does it happen?

I have a friend who is always late for drinks/meals and I don't understand how she can bear it. (It drives me bonkers.)

Oh and if you're usually late for social fixtures, are you also late for business meetings/planes etc? Or do you somehow, miraculously, moderate your behaviour if you're due to fly off on holiday?

Just wondering

VoodooFig · 23/11/2006 16:30

but they/ve never missed a plane!!!!

southeastastra · 23/11/2006 16:31

no i'm normally annoyingly early for everything!

unknownrebelbang · 23/11/2006 16:37

I hate being late, but do find it happening occasionally, usually due to clashing activities.

I think I've been late for two business meetings in 20+ years, one was due to having to deal with an issue at school, and one was due to forgetting it completely .

joelallie · 23/11/2006 17:10

No. I hate unpunctuality. I feel Ok to say that now after having started a thread about it a few weeks ago and being told that yes, it was 'a bad thing'

But it's always irritated me.

Carmenere · 23/11/2006 17:13

I used to be late all the time but am rarely late anymore particularly since I read that being late just means that you think that your time is more important the the person you are meeting.
Obviously if someone has a good excuse I don't mind but it is generally just rude.

Gobbledigook · 23/11/2006 17:15

No. Punctuality is a big thing for me - I hate being late and hate it even more when other people are late.

JonesTheSteam · 23/11/2006 17:15

I have a friend who is always late too - she is often late for planes etc as well so it's not just social events. It irritates the hell out of me, especially as she never lets me know she's running late - I would be much more understanding if I got at least an apology text.

chocolatedot · 23/11/2006 17:26

I would really like to hear from people as to why they are late and how they justify it. In fours years, I've never got to school late once (despite having had my share of flat tyres, tamtums, exploding nappies etc). I have a friend who is regularly 45 minutes late for children's parties, meals etc. It drives me mad.

never

i am tediously anal about time-keeping

bakedpotato · 24/11/2006 09:23

janitor, gold star for your honesty... You say you're better than you used to be -- why did you change?

I was wondering if some entrenched late people are late bcs no one has ever kept them waiting, ie they have no notion how irritating it can be?

I'm surprised by how few lateys have 'fessed up.

No. I am paranoid about being late, as I really hate unpunctuality. Although I don't drive, so have to rely on public transport, I usually get the bus about half an hour earlier than I think I need to, in case it doen't run/is late. This means I am usually ridiculously early for things, although I would never turn up early at something like a party - if I arrived early, I would go for a walk or something so I would reach the party just in time.

I hate being late but usually find myself running around in a mad panic so that I'm not late for stuff. No matter how long I allow myself for getting ready it never seems enough and with 5 minutes before I need to leave the house I'm always hunting for keys, lipstick, raincover for buggy etc. etc.

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 24/11/2006 13:55

I am also anal about being late. I'm naturally lazy and hate rushing so I make a point of giving myself plenty of time to get ready - more haste less speed kinda thing. I also have a very organised coat cupboard specifically to help me and the kids get out of the house on time and I appreciate that this a luxury.
I don't get too annoyed anymore, I just feel sorry for people who aren't as great as me (but they probably have tidy/clean homes and feel sorry for my kids.)
