Since we upgraded to Win XP from ME, it's been nothing but trouble. I had problems with Norton AV and Firewall. AV was incompatible and the Firewall simply kept vanishing. I'd try to do something with it and Pooof it would disappear at a random point in the proceedings. I've now bought Norton Internet Security, assuming this would solve my problems. Hahahahaha.

Anyway, following instructions on the Symantec website about how to sort out the Norton problems, it implied there was something critical missing and I would need to run MSCONFIG to check a few things. No problem except that this keeps disappearing too now. One minute it's there, the next it's as if I've never opened it.

Does anyone have any idea what on earth is going on? I've reached the point where I may well uninstal XP and revert to ME.

sorry, no idea soupy - i have had no probs with XP, ME was far flakier for me!

Norton Internet Security is the work of the devil. It's OK as long as you're not bothered about actually using the internet

I had no problems with AV 2000 and the Firewall with ME. I know ME was the cr*p version but XP has caused me far more annoying problems since we upgraded. I can no longer switch identities with Outlook Express for example - it simply disappears (sound familiar?!) and I have to restart to get OE to run again.

DH thinks XP is marvellous. Clearly I spend more time on it than he does.

Grrrrr!

Eventually found a sneaky little virus hidden away which 3 virus scans had failed to spot. W32/Gaobot.gen.worm - never heard of it! Anyway, www.pandasoftware.com/activescan found it where Norton virus scans failed. Try it here.

May I also recommend the Microsoft community newsgroups to anyone with a problem. Unless it's not a MS problem, obviously
