And it goes like this:
Does it do harm to the hob if you switch on the rings before putting a saucepan down on them?

Do harm as in 'it'll be scarred for life and have trouble fitting into society'?? I have no idea as we only have boring old gas.

MrsSpoon · 19/11/2006 20:48

I don't think so, we had one for a few months in our first house. However you might harm your eyesight by looking at it, or you could switch all the lights off in your kitchen and all the rings on on your hob and wait for your neighbours to call the Police and report an alien abduction/invasion?

emkana · 19/11/2006 20:53

pmsl at both of you

ok, i'll adjudicate as the proud owner of such a beast. which one of you is doing the switching on, and why?

emkana · 19/11/2006 20:55

dh switches it on first, then puts the porridge oats and the milk into the saucepan, then puts saucepan down

errrr....no? How would it?

Cappuccino · 19/11/2006 20:56

how long for?

and why would you bother?

kid · 19/11/2006 20:56

I have no idea, but I put the saucepan down before I turn it on.

emkana · 19/11/2006 20:56

I keep thinking I read somewhere that you shouldn't do that.

franke · 19/11/2006 20:59

I swing both ways but you've got me thinking about the wisdom of this now...

Cappuccino · 19/11/2006 21:00

ceramic hobs don't need warming up like the old types

so it's just a waste of energy as much as anything else

FWIW i think i switch mine on once the pan is down but only because of fear of little fingers straying onto the cooker and an irrational hatred of starship enterprise style goings on in my kitchen LOL.
