DVD stuck in DVD player....

I've tried with a knife to get the dvd disk tray open but to no avail...it wont budge...if I turn off the power and go in there will it be ok?

my dd posted two dvds into our machine which were then firmly stuck. DH managed to unscrew the cover and get them out luckily!

Hi, are you talking about a stand alone DVD player or a DVD ROM drive in a PC?
If the latter (and possibly the former) there will be a pin hole in the front panel.
Straighten out a paper clip and poke it in the hole. The tray should just pop out.
If it's really stuck fast then it'll be a lid off job.

Is it mechanically stuck or is the display not behaving either? If the former try Grayham's idea but if the latter you might get results from just unplugging it for a few hours and then plugging it back in. One of those technovoodoo things (or just overheating.)
