Dh and I decided to take dd to the park after lunch today, nice park about 15mins away. Anyway when we got to the park there were 3 young lads playing and a group of men and women sat on a park bench, they were foreign and all heads turned when we entered the park area (imagine the scene where you walk into a local pub and everyone turns to look at you, well it was like that) was a little put off but we took dd on the swings and she was happy enough. The young lads had left by this point and there was no one else around, the group got louder and were staring at us and laughing and it got to the point where I said it was getting cold and we needed to leave (dd screamed as we hadn't been there that long) and then i got really annoyed as when we were leaving the men got up and went over to some swings and stood on them ffs this is a park for kids, I only wish I had the balls to tell them that tho. The park does have a warden but i couldn't see him about, I really felt intimidated by them and now feel that I allowed myself to feel like that as the park is for children and I wished stayed

What has the foreign part got to do with it?

I seriously doubt that they were laughing at a young family.

People are looking at us far less than we think they are-believe me!

sorry to hear about your experience. I agree, we shouldn't be intimidated, but unfortunately, we live in an unpredictable world, and I never approach any of todays youths, as you never know if they're gonna pull a bloody knife on you! Very sad but true. It's not worth the grief. Either try the same park again, they probably won't be there, or find another park.
I agree with moondog, they probably weren't laughing at you, but I would have felt intimidated too to be honest.
