My dh has got tickets for quarter final Euro 2004 and because of recent problems it is a good idea for us to go an dstay in Lisbon for a few days without kids.About to bok flights but feel very nervous about leaving kids in case anything happened to us. I know lots of people live with terrorist threat every day especially if they work in big cities and my dh does in nwest but I think its because we are both going and its not work but pleasure - so we don't have to go. I suppose I'll miss kids too but know dh would be very very dissapointed if I didn't go with him. Any advice please ?

I went to New York last month with my husband and left the children behind. Like you the what if anything happened to us question was at teh back of my mind a lot in the lead up to going. Not just terrorism but anything that could happen!

I still went though and I am glad that I did. I did miss the children and I think they missed us a bit! I kept thinking that these kind of feelings were a bit irrational and I tened to feel a bit foolish for mentioning them but I think loads of people with children have these kinds of thoughts.

Thanks Soapbox I am a worrier at the best of times and don't often leave the kids overnight. I suppose I should be more worried for my mum who will have to do the school run for 3 days

Statistically I think you and/or dh are running a higher risk of leaving your children parentless by going off to work everyday and exposing yourself to normal uk traffic.

I was in nyc on september 11 with ds and without dh. I only wish that dh had been there with me to give me a cuddle. It hasn't put me off traveling. I honestly worry more when dh goes out drinking with his mates (i'm worried he'll get into a pub fight).

mambo I have been worrying about this going to football matches all season, kept thinking that dh and I shouldn't go together (or at all!). I think any match would be a good target as there are such a high concentration of people in a small area, however I would have thought that the Euros will be very tights on security etc.

Quite honestly you can't let these terrorists ruin your life, all you can do is be vigilant and carry on your life as normal IMHO.

Well said CD, and as Bin Laden is a Gooner you'll probably be safe!
Personally I never think this way but then I never go anywhere! I do travel on the tube and go into Central London etc without worrying.
