Any dentists out there know about root canal costs?!!

Hi - my DH just been quoted £600 to have one root canal done (referred by Boots dentist to root canal specialist). I think this is such a lot of money but they are saying it will take 2 sessions and will be done by a specialist who will drill out existing root canal to make it good etc etc. Anyone know anything about this? THANKS

That seems extortionate! I had root canal done 2 yrs ago on nhs and that was £54 . how can they charge so much?

Yes, that sounds right for a specialist. I was quoted the same hence I'm waiting now for my tooth to give up the ghost so can be removed. If you are having a root canal; redone has to be done by a specialist.
I was also told poor prognosis because of position of tooth.

If he needs to have existing root canal drilled out, is that because it was done once before or because it has calcified? If the latter, how good a condition is the tooth in otherwise? It's just that I have recently had a molar extracted because both roots were calcified, drilling and filling them would have been a long, dodgy and very uncomfortable job, followed by expensive crowning and no guarantee that it would last very long.

If it's just one root and the other is OK then this probably doesn't apply but I thought I'd mention it!
