Actually, spellcheckers can cause problems of their own ... a secretary where I used to work (and no, it wasn't me!) once typed a document which contained the phrase "This front-end study ...". Her spellchecker changed it to "This fornicating study ... " ... luckily someone spotted it before it got to the client ...

Supposedly (although probably never happened) one of the very first spellcheckers came across an important letter to a bloke named Denis and decided that that was clearly a misspelling...
