Ds1 (3 1/2) - gets magazines as a special treat once in a blue moon was really excited by the ads for the new Balamory magazine. Scoured the shops on the 28 - publication day - with not a copy to be found. We live in one of the big Scottish cities and none of the major retailers had been issued copies for sale (Sainsbury's, WHSmith & Woolworths). Emailed them to find out what had happened (can't believe there was a mad 8am rush to get copies so that the whole city sold out!) and all I got was a short reply that basically said tough!!! Like I can say that to one v disappointed boy. I am SO cross with them.

I was in Asda on Sunday and they had the Balamory Magazine. But dd already had it as it was the same one that they gave away free with the Sun Newspaper a couple of weeks ago and someone gave it to Dh to bring home for dd.

Strange that Wh Smiths don't have it though.

Tissy · 05/05/2004 13:05

Our local newsagent had it last weekend- dd prefered a Disney Comic with free plastic bugs, though!

leander · 05/05/2004 20:47

I got it today for ds from Tescos

Eowyn · 05/05/2004 21:08

Bought it last week in local shop, do you want me to get another & post if it's still out? Not a lot to do in it tho, best thing was a free "camera".

Have you seen that Sid is going to Balamory to ask the characters all the kids' questions. I think you can write in or go via the CBeebies website. Shall we think up some good ones and send them under one of our children's names tee hee?

amysoph · 05/05/2004 21:24

I didn't know there was a Balamory mag, great news! I will go out tomorrow and see if I can find a copy - ostensibly for dd1, but really for me, obv!

I am tempted to ask which characters people like best on Balamory, but that would just be too too sad.

Wouldn't it?!

Is Archie a true scot?

amysoph · 05/05/2004 21:28

I have read that Miles Jupp, aka Archie, is a stand-up comic. He does some sort of posh character, and is supposed to be quite funny.

Paula71 · 05/05/2004 23:29

I don't know if he is a ahem true Scot in that sense but I wish he would sit with his knees together when he is in the nursery. Sometimes I think the show is about to go x-rated with just the right camera shot!

His stand-up is really funny though, but now I don't think I could watch his stand-up without waiting for an "invention"!

Davros · 06/05/2004 10:38

Archie is as Scottish as Spencer!

bundle · 06/05/2004 10:39

slinks off...

gscrym · 06/05/2004 15:17

If Archie's a true scotsman, what bloody clan has that tartan??
Also as I said in another thread, his house is in north berwick. You've got to feel sorry for them all, only Eadie MacCreadie can drive!
I've heard of many parents who have given in to the lets go to Balamory on holiday pleas and like many other v.small scottish towns, there isn't much there except pretty little house, tea rooms and gift shops.

Ummm.....I quite fancy Archie.....in a strange sort of lovable buffoon sort of way
