There was an article in Times 2 yesterday (which I would link but my computer is still misbehaving - maybe someone could?).

Going on about playgroup mafia mums who rule teachers and parents and fight for the best for their children blah blah blah blah. Alphas mums.

I do not know anyone like this. My friends who have children at school do not know anyone like this.

Is it a southern thing or a myth created by journalists?

Come across them?

I am one!

HuwEdwards · 15/11/2006 13:46

no, I'm in the Midlands - all the mums I know are the hapless-doing-their-best-most-of-the-time-needing-regular-influxes-of-wine-of-an-evening types like me.

doormat · 15/11/2006 13:46

are they the same ones who have mouths like the mersey tunnel
and are chavvy

buktus · 15/11/2006 13:46

im southern and it does go on quite a lot, my LO's school has quite a few of them

buktus · 15/11/2006 13:47

lol doormat you have hit the nail on the head there

coppertop · 15/11/2006 13:48

WelshBoris · 15/11/2006 13:48

I am one

Can not wait til DD is in school so I can join the PTA and get my face "seen"

WhizzBangCaligula · 15/11/2006 13:48

If I do, I haven't noticed.

How do these journalists know these women are terrorising the teachers?

Maybe it's a private school thing?

coppertop · 15/11/2006 13:49

Bugger! Wrong one. It was the playground mafia or something.

It wasn't that one Coppertop, it was from yesterday (I think, my days seep into one).

I think it was titled Playgroud Mafia or something.

marymillington · 15/11/2006 13:52

oliveoil · 15/11/2006 13:53

no no no doormat

you are getting the wrong end of the stick my love

these mums are alpha mums who are used to getting their own way at work (yawn, would they describe men in this way?) and are therefore bored as a SAHM and use their children as a project

alledgedly

I have not seen this once ever ever ever

OP posts:

None round here. Loads that complain all the time about school but that's just because they always 'deal with' anyone who dares to cross a single member of the terrifying inbred hive-mind that is their huuuuuge extended family.

But most people are like me, just getting by and feeling bloody proud (amazed) if their kids make it out of the door on time in the morning, awake, correctly dressed and fed, with the right stuff for the day, to be alpha mums.

BTW 'alphas mum' made me think that maybe Alpha was a little girl with a very trendy name.

oliveoil · 15/11/2006 13:57

One of the quotes mentioned one woman networking through her children and only did playdates with people who would be 'useful' for her business!

So even if her children had other friends and she considered the parents 'useless', then she wouldn't bother inviting them round!

I cannot see this happening myself, surely it's a lie.

doormat · 15/11/2006 13:58

northerner pmsl at chess club for 7yr old

buktus · 15/11/2006 13:59

5 year old taking piano lessons does that count

oliveoil · 15/11/2006 14:00

well if the child was into chess, why not? If the parent thinks they should be doing it and forced the issue, then obviously weirdy weirdo territory.

SOMEONE LINK THE ARTICLE FOR ME PLEASE OR I WILL COMBUST
