moving house with a newborn...

Has anyone been crazy enough to have moved house with a newborn baby?

We were supposed to have moved already but the vendor of our new house and some legalities have stalled it. We exchange contracts tomorrow.

My edd is 23rd Nov (next Thursday), I would be probably induced at 42 weeks which is 6th Dec (hopefully I will pop before then though) and our completion date is 12th Dec. So the youngest my baby will be when we move is under a week old.

Aaaaaaaaarrrgggggghhhh!!!

Has anyone done this and got through it without crying even just once?

Anyone???

Hope you go over and stay in hospital whilst dh moves you!

Sorry, no ideas. You've very brave - good luck!

you'll prob be fine, are you packed up or half way there yet?
baby will prob feed sleep in those first 2/3 weeks but get your mates and family lined up to help

Or even better, my baby makes an appearance tonight and he will be about a month old by the time it comes to moving.

At least I will be kinda used to him by then.

works through list of self-induction methods AGAIN

Hermykne - There isn't that much to pack tbh. We are moving from a small flat to a bigger flat and all the white goods in the kitchen are integrated so staying here.

We have no family near us. We have friends but it is on a Tuesday that we will be moving so feel bad asking them to take time off work to help. We will see if any of them will though.

Did you find it tough? I don't think it is the physical side of it that I would find stressful, it is the emotional burden that I have to face in the next month.

We moved when ds2 was 6 days old - and we were living abroad so NO friends or family to help with anything. I'd like to say I didn't cry and might not have until the moving company were packing up to leave at lunchtime, having unloaded our stuff onto every available surface - as they do - and it turned out that an entire pallet of our belongings had gone missing somewhere in storage so we had no bed, hoover, wardrobe - or, worst of all, photo albums! Can't say I'd necessarily recommend moving then if you had a choice but with the help of some friends and family you should be fine!

Ilovemyboy · 13/11/2006 22:26

annh - that sounds stressful.

How was your baby throughout all of this? Could you do much to help your DH while your baby was so small?

Baby was absolutely fine - and has maintained that laid-back attitude to life since then (now 5)! DS1, who was 2.10 at the time was far more upset and agitated by the whole thing.

I was so miserable about the state the house was in (partly because of missing wardrobe, hoover etc) and partly because it was too flaming small for all our stuff that I ended up doing far more than I probably should have done. Also when our missing stuff turned up, the removal company sent it over with a different removal company who were on their way to another country and who just dropped everything off and refused to take it upstairs, assemble wardrobe etc. so I do remember holding bits of it in place when dh was putting it together. DS2 must have been all of 10 days by then! HV (or loval equivalent) kept checking that I was getting enough rest etc and I kept lying through my teeth to her!

Oh well, we look back and laugh now ...

I moved house (alone!) when ds was three weeks old.

Also had a three year old to look after.

My dh was abroad.

Worked out fine.

It'll be fine. Get removers to do packing, decamp somewhere and agree that you and baby will turn up once all is unpacked and there's a bed for you!
