parents will be in Denver, CO for thanksgiving - they are starting to panic, are staying with friends (all american) and not sure of the custom of thanksgiving. Do they need to take presents? Will they need to dress up etc etc

When I lived in the US we celebrated Thanksgiving in jeans. Make sure they are comfy and stretch a little in the waist as you'll eat loads... I would advise your parents to just ask their friends! Otherwise smart casual will always do. When friends came over they would bring a bottle of wine or a six-pack (of beer), some would bring a dish but as your parents are coming from the UK that would be slightly impractical. Some typical british snack will be appreciated.

TAke along a host/hostess gift. A British gift would go over well.

No need to dress up b/c there'll be a football game(s) on and everyone will want to sit comfortably after the big meal for the game(s).

I am an American expat to Scotland.

Although I'm married to a Scotsman and my children are Scots, I make a little Thanksgiving dinner every year.

Oh yes, forgot about the (american) football game

my mum is so going to hate the game - am sure she'll busy herself with the washing up!

they are taking chocolates - bendicks I believe. so that should be ok.

shall get mum on the hostess gift though as they've been to the Uk every year for the last 15 and always gone back with something as a thankyou (they've come to to do a conference for us) that not sure theres much else they could take.

uk gifts already sent : monopoly of town where stayed; some posh china; silver spoons; chocolate and a tea towel with windsor castle on it
