.. today, I thought for the first time, they really understood it.

It's such a tiny village, the vicar read out the losses from 1st world war, 2nd world war, Korean war, and there were so many surnames it made me gulp.

I doubt (but hope) our children will understand it, but also understand there's no point.

Our DS(5) did really well with two 2 minutes of silence two days in a row.

DH sat down with him to tell him the why's and the wherefore's in his inimitable long winded way.

DS said, stop Daddy just stop, they fire a big gun, and then the entire country comes to a standstill, it's easy.

DD1 asked me on Friday about the poppies. I think children do understand a little bit about the horror and futility of war.

DD1 was given a poppy at preschool this week. They had an assembly explaining about them and what they represent. When she came home she told me they were to remember the people that had died in the woods!!
