Phone scam???

Just got back from school run. Two messages on my answering machine, both the same, a voice says:

"Mr L Anorak, or Mrs J Anorak" then another voice cuts in saying: "to continue, press any button", then in cuts out.

Both voices sound kind of automated, it stinks of a scam to me, if my phone rings now I don't know whether I should answer it or not, what do you think?

Def won't press any buttons, anyway.

answer it and then hang up if they ring again. If you can do 1471 and get a number do so.

I had one that started like this saying it was from mine/dp's bank. I hung up and phoned the bank using a number I had (not the one that the phone call had given me) and reported it - funnily enough bank knew nothing about it.

I've got the number off 1471 now.

But unless I press the button I won't know what they're after. I'm not going to press the button so do you think there is any point reporting this and if so, who to?

OK, the phone rang and I answered it, heard a bit more of the message than my answering machine caught. They are pretending to be the bank. But banks don't ring you and ask you to press a key to continue, do they?

No they don't. We had a couple of calls like this, and the person just said 'it's the bank' and when I asked which bank they hung up. Bloody cheek.

I also had a message left stating my name and that the company had an urgent message for me and I should call their number to retrieve it. I had never heard of this service so I didn't call. If the message was that important someone would have rung me back. Guess what? Nobody rang...
