Another mooncup thread - mine leaks:(

Hello - I have been directed here and told there are lots of mooncup experts. I have been using mine for a year and have been very pleased with it. it has always leaked a bit, but so did tampons so i was never that bothered. however, over the past few months it has been really bad - it is almost like my period is bypassing the mooncup and drippign down the sides. My sister has suggested this is becuase i have a huge fanny and i should get the bigger cup (have never given birth and am under whatever age you should be under so have the smaller one).

I really want to keep using it - so any help on this would be really appreciated.

Cheers

were you doing handstands?

did you put it in upside down?

Mine leaks when my period is heavy, I am hoping that it is not because I am too big. I think despite my best efforts it sometimes doesn't unfurl properly. The other thing I have thought of, is that if there is loads of blood it might affect its ability to form a seal.
It worse if I am having a wee, and I wonder if my pelvic floor muslces almost kind of squeeze it, because it sort of leaks with a gurgle, tmi I know

Why not try with the bigger one and see if it makes a difference. When you empty the mooncup is there blood inside it, if there is only very little then it would suggest that it's not catching the blood.

Like every other part of the body I'm pretty sure that fannies come in all different sizes so perhaps yours is slightly larger.

bloodbloodeverywhere · 08/11/2006 22:09

Cavenous fanny it seems to be

Actually it what Overrun says rings a few bells. When I put it in when it is heavy and then I empty it there is a bit in bit - but more in my knickers, so it sounds like it might be a seal problem. Will try that next month.

Cheers pals

While we're on the tmi kick, does anyone else find that their insides hurt when wearing either a mooncup or a tampon, and there is great relief when it's removed? It's a generalised ache that's hard to pinpoint.

Damn, was hoping my new Mooncup would override the tampon-ache

bran · 09/11/2006 14:23

Yes, I can feel pressure from my mooncup and I also used to be able to feel tampons in a slightly uncomfortable but really painful way. I have very long periods (over a week usually) so I tend to use towels for the light days to give my fanjo a rest. I did wonder whether I should have gone for the smaller one, although I'm above the age that they suggest.

Glad it's not just me and yes, it's only when period pain is present. Sorry to dash your hopes, motherinferior!
