Getting married abroad, thank you gifts

I'm not sure if this in the right place, but anyway.......

OH and I are getting married abroad later this year. Our grown up kids, my mum, 2 friends from the UK and a few friends from Canada will be there.

we are having 2 BM's, 2 ushers and a best man.

I would like to give nice thank you gifts, but we are already really tight on luggage allowance. I have had an idea and am looking for your opinions, positive or negative...........

I thought I would get small gifts (jewellery for the BM's, perhaps an engraved keyring for the males) and then I would present them with cards at the reception stating thanks for all your help, there is a gift waiting for you at home. (they will all be returning home before us) and I thought I might leave the bigger pressies wrapped up and labelled at home.

Does this sound a great idea or a really lame one?

Might be worth posting over on the Weddings board.

FWIW that sounds like a good idea to me though BM and BM etc. usually only get something like cufflinks or jewelry anyway.
