MOONCUPPERY - First day with a mooncup and....

I'm finding it very messy to remove, empty and clean out (have emptied it twice today). I cannot imagine doing it in a public toilet.

It also feels very big when inserted, despite folding it up etc as advised in the leaflet. It really isn't as easy to use as I was expecting. It also feels quite big inside, I've jiggled it about to get it more comfortable but I can definitely feel it in there, unlike a tampon.

ludaloo · 07/11/2006 13:34

What the frick is a moon cup????

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:35

I am 24 and had a vaginal birth 4 years ago.

I bought the wrong size by mistake but was advised to give it a go anyway because the size difference is not that huge

It took me a few cycles to get used to it - now it's comfortable.

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:36

it's like a little rubber cup designed to used instead of a tampon.

MascaraOHaraIncredibleSheHulk · 07/11/2006 13:36

I've been toying with the idea but not sure about comfort and changing it

JackieNo · 07/11/2006 13:37

Here, Ludaloo

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:37

Mine is on its final warning - I am giving it one more month to sort itself out... I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I'm really aware of it too. I want to love it, I really do.

Heathcliffscathy · 07/11/2006 13:37

NDP!!! you are 24!!!!

[thunk]

you really are wise beyond your years!!!!

you are a baby!!!!

Hallgerda · 07/11/2006 13:37

ludaloo, it's one of these .

MrsDoolittle · 07/11/2006 13:38

Thsi was me last month NMP.
Lucky we have a tiled bathroom floor. I forgot the side to side advice for removal, I pulled in down and it popped forward spewing it's contents across the floor!!
I couldn't imagine getting on with it at the time, but strangley, you start to get the 'knack' for putting it in and out quite quickly.
I think it tend to soften a little with use though. I remember that feeling of being stretched inside.
I took the whole stem off too.

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:39

MrsFP, me too, especially afetr I told DH how much it cost and he practically fainted and told me it'd go the same way as the juicer et al in a few weeks (ie gathering dust in the cupboard)

LOL @ soph

I struggled with mine for the first couple of months too (was on the verge of giving up actually) but was reassured by people on here who said it usually takes 3 months to get the hang of it.

If you can feel it I think it would suggest that it's not in properly. Have you tried bearing down whilst putting it in? That helped for me. I actually push it in quite high, so it's covering the top of the cervix, which also made a difference - the instructions gave the impression it should be quite low but that was really uncomfortable. Also, have you tried cutting the stem off?

Actually I think it is quite messy in comparison to tampons but it does get better once you get used to removing it.

I'm by no means a mooncup expert though, so will leave it to someone who really knows what they are talking about.

anorak · 07/11/2006 13:39

NDP stick with it. It won't dry you out like tampons, and by the end of your period you won't be sore. Tampons leak sometimes. No method is infallible. But I've just tried mooncup for two months and I think I'm getting used to it. Definitely I have far less discomfort with it.

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:40

it makes me feel a bit sick actually. Like the feeling you get when you've been holding a visit to the loo in for too long.

Heathcliffscathy · 07/11/2006 13:41

ah.....are you prone to cystitis?

i used to get cystitis loads when i used the cap (and lets face it they are similar)....always do a wee before inserting should help???

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:43

not generally, no. I am inserting it with an empty bladder

OP posts:
lemonaid · 07/11/2006 13:43

My best guess with the being able to feel it problem is that you don't have it up high enough. I know that mine's in the right position when I start to worry that I'm going to lose it in there forever...

ludaloo · 07/11/2006 13:43

blimey...never heard of it! they look massive!!!

mustrunmore · 07/11/2006 13:44

NDP; I always thought you were quite old too

I'm getting desperate enough with tampons to try this mooncup malarky, despite the whole idea sounding a bit grim to me!

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 13:44

Lol @ MrsD's bathroom floor massacre

I have cut the tail off completely, it is the actual cup itself that is causing the problems.
