I'm finding it very messy to remove, empty and clean out (have emptied it twice today). I cannot imagine doing it in a public toilet.

It also feels very big when inserted, despite folding it up etc as advised in the leaflet. It really isn't as easy to use as I was expecting. It also feels quite big inside, I've jiggled it about to get it more comfortable but I can definitely feel it in there, unlike a tampon.

franny's selling them cheap, but they are still about £15 though

NDP I was wondering how you were getting on. The first time I used mine it also felt rather 'big' and uncomfortable to remove. But it improved the more I used it, all that folding and boiling softens it up I think. It can be a bit messy, but not really once your flow lightens and once you have perfected the technique! Just takes a bit of getting used to, stick with it for a bit.

mrsflowerpot · 07/11/2006 14:00

lol at 'popping out at 11th hour'. It's like those fold up tents you get for the beach sometimes.

I'm going to try cutting the stem right off and ahem, inserting a little further next month. If I end up in A&E I will be back for retribution, though.

Bozza · 07/11/2006 14:00

TBH and extremely frank to boot, I couldn't do it squatting on the bathroom floor because I would make a mess due to heavy flow - I need to be hovering over the toilet or in the shower. That is until this month when it has all changed for various reasons.

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 14:00

God yes, DD had one of those UV tents, bloody nightmare.

Well, I haven't got round to the public loo thing yet.
I've only just got round taking it out without leaving the bathroom looking like the chainsaw massacre has just taken place! (Xcuse me)

I have to admit to taking a macabre fascination with it's contents though How much can I fill it in one go? It's a bit like squeezing black heads or taking the dust off the tumble dryer filter IYSWIM??

lemonaid · 07/11/2006 14:01

And agree with MrsD on insertion.

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 14:01

I will have to grin and bear it, £20 is a lot to waste

I think I'm the same Dior. I was advised to wear it low, but it irritates if I have it too low. I do find it most comfortable when it's higher

GeorginaA · 07/11/2006 14:25

NdP: honestly took me until the end of the 2nd month until I started feeling comfortable and confident using it, but so much better than tampons when I did.

I honestly don't remember any time I've NEEDED to sort it out in a public loo. I found that the times between changes were long enough that it was extremely unlikely for me to be "caught out" as it were. Think I was changing every 6 hours first day of period and then every 8 hours subsequent days. So potentially only 1 day in 30 that it'd be an issue? And it does get a lot lot quicker and easier, honest

GeorginaA · 07/11/2006 14:25

(wear mine high as I can get it too)

GeorginaA · 07/11/2006 14:32

Have found different types of folds on the net - would one of these make insertion easier?

C-fold (the standard one Mooncup advises you)

Punch Down Fold

"7" Fold

Origami Fold

Comparison photos of all the different folds

Flamesparrow · 07/11/2006 14:34

It took me until the end of month 3 to be completely happy with it... then I went and got pregnant and I think I'm gonna be back to square one

Not having it high enough up was my main comfort issue. Using it more does soften it and make it slightly less pingy.

I thought you were older too...

I changed because although I wasn't having soreness whilst actually using the tampons, I was having other soreness that it turned out was because of them.

Flamesparrow · 07/11/2006 14:35

Was anyone else expecting at least one of those links to be the bat??

GeorginaA · 07/11/2006 14:39

Damn, missed opportunity

Bozza · 07/11/2006 14:39

Well I have unfortunately had to change it in public loos (esp at work) many times. It is feasible. Agree about it softening, I was sore with it at first but I am sitting here with it in and cannot feel a thing.

Georgina you can find anything on the net if you look.

GeorginaA · 07/11/2006 15:04

You're so right .. I've found another fold:

Bat Fold

Bozza · 07/11/2006 15:06

I cannot believe that I fell for that one.

GeorginaA · 07/11/2006 15:10

YES!

(my day has all been worthwhile... )

NomDePlume · 07/11/2006 15:35

thanks for these. I've started feeling really rough - sick and exhausted, I think I'm coming down with something so I've taken the cup out for now and I'll try again tomorrow

Sorry to hear that NdP - hope it's just a 24hr thing.

NomDePlume · 08/11/2006 13:12

Still feeling a bit poo today so I'm not in college, better than yesterday though, at least I can keep my eyes open !

Mooncup is back in use today and so far I have had no problems. It is up quite high now and feels a lot more comfortable, in fact I'm not sure I can feel it at all. It has leaked quite considerably (am wearing it with a precautionary pad) so reducing leakages is my next mc project
