Jarm, even if you get nothing else from this thread, it will make you laugh.

nutcracker · 07/11/2006 17:17

ROFL

Oh another tip I have just though of, is at the mo alot of shops have rails of strappy tops left over from summer. They are great to wear under a v neck top or shrug etc etc and the shops are giving them away. I got 2 lovely ones for £2.50 each today and they will both go fine under stuff I already have.

Oh and me and my mum now don't buy anything that is full price. We wait a week and then go back and 50% of the time it has been reduced. It's a bit of a risk cos they may sell out but then you weren't meant to have it LOL.

mousiemousie · 07/11/2006 17:29

Make sure you have a FAB haircut and do a great blow dry - I only wash mine every other day too.

Wear colours to cheer you and everyone else up and always think in outfits with accessories.

Have good underwear, replace regularly and bin the crap.

Make time to do something you love that makes you feel good EVERY DAY even if its just for 10 minutes sometimes

Cuddle your kids for 15 minutes each a day - good for the health of both of you

Don't eat or drink sugary crap

LIZS · 07/11/2006 17:38

In the same vein as Nutty I got some vest tops on buy one get 2nd half price in M and S last week and some colours were only £1 when I went to pay ! Thought they'd be good for under chunky knitwear during the winter.

Try to drink water or fruit juice/smoothie instead of putting the kettle on at least once a day. Perhaps use one of the facial moisturisers with a little fake tan once or twice a week.

btw this thread has inspired me to book a much needed haircut !

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 07/11/2006 17:55

FABBO ideas here people... keep them coming!!!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 07/11/2006 18:06

Gingerbear - thank you so much for your offer. Im not overly fussy re clothes! I cant afford to be lol

Ive got dark hair, fairly pale skin and green eyes!

CAT me or email on [email protected]

lulumama · 07/11/2006 18:10

try some affirmations...

a lot about looking good comes from having a certain amount of confidence and carrying yourself well, like you are a worthwhile and valid person.

Obviously, everyone wants to look their best and look good to others...but don;t neglect your inner beauty too,,,,

affirmations...choose something you like about yourself

eg i have lovely soft, smooth skin

I am a great listener
etc...

look at yourself in the mirror every morning and say your affirmation 10 times... like you mean it!!

and say it again whenever you catch sight of yourself...

a bit of self confidence will make you feel good!!!

Gingerbear · 07/11/2006 18:11

I am a fair skinned green/blue eyed ginge, so I think we may have same colours to suit. I am much older than you though, although I have adhered strictly to Cod's style classes.
Have catted you, but will email as tis quicker.
Will take some pics of stuff, and send to you - let me know if you fancy anything.

ShowOfHands · 07/11/2006 18:13

Great thread although I don't belong here. I wash my hair once a week and never wear make-up.

We need a new thread where you trendy, groomed people can throw virtual rocks at me.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 19:53

Some excellent tips here.

Any more 'health/diet' related ones aside from the all time classic - dont eat so much?

I have started buying cheap accessories to go with things. I look at it as distraction wear

don't forget your fresh knicks as well - -ooh don't know if it's your thing but PD's, asda and pecocks do some lovely undies. (althou i'm not one for matching)

brimfull · 08/11/2006 08:36

JARM,have been folllowing your thread and I'm going to put a skirt on today!!I'm sure everyone goes through these dowdy times after kids.I need a kick up the backside sometimes

arfishymeau · 08/11/2006 10:01

After I had DD I dropped 5 dress sizes (WW) and I had the confidence to really change the way I dress and behave.

In Autumn/winter I will often wear a skirt (over the knee) with boots, looks fabulous and is much better than trousers.

I also wear jewellery and make-up every day and really try to dress for my shape rather than fashion. It's better to wear something that looks good on you than something trendy.

munz · 08/11/2006 10:20

also how are your bra's? mine are all dowdy and loosey fitting (BF) but when u buy a new bra and it'sa all nie and firm etc it gives your best a lift and lifts it form your tummy - or is that just me lol.

here is excellent (thanks coddy) althou NL and such places have nice bra's for the smaller girls - i'm an E so have to have boulder holders!

Lizzylou · 08/11/2006 10:32

I am 8mths post-pregancy (2nd) and gradually getting back to my old shape(ish)....I am 5ft 9 and size 16, not going back to work so have had to get back into old clothes as can't afford new ones!

I have given in and now always eat breakfast as that has helped me stop picking mid-morning and I think has helped me lose weight.

I have joined a gym, I now run for 15mins (as well cycle/row/crosstrain) when I could only manage about 2mins when I first started, I have built up 1minute more each time...this has done WONDERS for my self-esteem and even tho the weight has taken it's time I can see results now....you could do the same with a home exercise DVD/Vid or walk each day if Gym isn't an option (we have excellent, cheap council one near us, so is not swanky!).

Hold you in pants/tights are brilliant for making you feel good and keeping in wobbly bits.

I always wear mascara, I have nice eyes but they like pee-holes in the snow with some help!

I exfoliate twice a week which makes a huge difference to my skin tone. Also exfoliate face twice weekly and use face mask once a week, always use eyecream and moisturiser...my fave for winter is from Holland and Barratt and about £3 for huge tub! It's an Antiwrinkle with more Vitamins in than posher creams.

I now do all my grocery shopping online, I plan what I need, stick to my budget and NEVER have to shut my eyes when walking past the bakery section now! I get coupons/vouchers which mean I always get £5/10 off so I don't pay for delivery and this is saving us buckets as you can't just pick up things you don't need but which look good.

I have always struggled with low confidence but am getting better!

DumbledoresGirl · 08/11/2006 10:40

PMSL at Moondog's comment.

I wash my hair every 5 days and it is shiny and beautiful for at least 4 of them. Can I have top prize for minger?

aweebitgross · 08/11/2006 10:49

As I started reading this thread, I got off the chait, went to the bedroom and put on moisturiser, mascara, a slick of eyeliner, some lippy and a stroke of bronzing balls... pulled on a skirt..and a chain and bracelet... feel good already I have short hair though, and if it isn't washed every day I look like a man, then I go over the top with straighteners, It gives me some height

Wintersun · 08/11/2006 14:35

Always wear matching underwear. Doesn't have to be expensive. I have a whole load of multi-pack knickers and bras in black and in white so I can always match.

Get well fitting bras.

Wear dark coloured jeans. Make sure they are a good fit to avoid the dreaded 'muffin-top'.

Have decent shoes/boots/trainers and a good large handbag.
TK Maxx are good for bags if you want to go a bit smarter.

Have nice sleepwear. Doesn't have to be sexy but don't just sleep in old t-shirts etc. Primark are excellent for pjs.

Throw out any clothes that have lost their shape or fit badly (unless they are tight you want to get into them!)

Always be showered, dressed and ready first thing. Sets you up well for the rest of the day.

doggiesayswoof · 08/11/2006 16:57

Been following this thread and JARM's other one. Today I have booked a hair appt (hair WAS a nice shapely bob, and 3 months later is now achieving a straggly helmet effect).

I am going to research nice foundation after haircut - resolving to start wearing a leetle bit of make-up every day. Normally I don't wear any and feel so dowdy.

Thanks everybody for all the tips - it's given me the kick up the arse I needed!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/11/2006 17:08

Im really pleased this is helping others.

I have been and had my hair cut today and although its ok, maybe could have done with a bit more off, but its ok. It feels good and DH says it looks good.

Didnt really get a chance to shop.... sods law and all that!

Will make time on saturday to have another mooch around the shops!

misdee · 08/11/2006 18:13
