I rang up about the 4 bed house this morning and they have finally admitted that it is empty.
She said it needs alot of work but it will be offered within the next couple of days.
I asked her if she could have a look at my file and see if she thought i would at least be considered for it. She then said "Is that Miss " and i said "yes".
She said, i am already being considered for it.

She did stress that the fact i'm being considered doesn't mean i will get it, but i'm definatly in the running.
I think it should be a good sign that she knew who i was without me even telling her. My name must of been in the air, which is what i wanted.

Hopefully i should know if i've got it before i look at the maisonette on tuesday. If i don't know by then i'll have to stall the council.

If i haven't heard anything by monday then i will ring them on tuesday morning.

Have to say i have already cried about it, and my hands are shaking that much i can hardley type. At least if i don't get it thiough, it will be easier to make a desicion about the maisonette, as that will be my only option.

So lots of finger crossing and other good lucky producing activities please. Prayers would be good too

Best of luck. I hope you get it.

agy · 04/05/2004 09:46

I would think they'd count your dp's daughter in with your children as it would have to be family children as a whole IFYSWIM! So, that's promising. Fingers crossed.

Twinkie · 04/05/2004 09:53

Good luck Nutty - it seems to me that they would not have said the things to you that they have if you were not going to be offered the house - you deserve it too afetr all the shit you have been through - I bet the house warming fairy will be knocking on your door if you do get it

Beccarollover · 04/05/2004 10:00

Nutcracker · 04/05/2004 15:13

No more news on the house yet but i've just got back from looking at the maisonette.
It was o.k, usual council minimal kitchen and no more work than it needs. I asked about heating, to be told that the council are eventually planning to install central heating in all properties in the next 5 - 20 years (yes you heard right). At the momment there are no plans to install it there.
I asked about grants and she said that it's possible but it's nothing to do with the council so it would be up to me to sort it out.
At first she said i only had until 4 pm tommorow to let them know if i wanted it. I said that wasn't fair considering i had to do some digging about grants. After some huffing and puffing she said i could have until 4pm on thrusday.

Somehow now i've got to get the H/A to tell me for definate about the house by thursday afternoon at the latest.

I've just got a horrible feeling that somethings going to go wrong.
My mom said if i don't know about the house by then, i'll have to accept the maisonette and then change my mind if i get the house (are you following ?? It's confusing isn't it)

I'm going to ring th H/A again tommorow and ask them whats going on. They should of done the rent check by then. I'll stress that they can come and look at the flat whenever they like.
I did think about saying i needed to know by thursday cos we were going away.

So thats the latest, i'm soooo stressed at the mo.

FWIW, I think that your Mum is right. Accept the maisionette and change your mind if the house offer comes through. You have to be fairly ruthless in this game, hon. Best of luck

Twinkie · 04/05/2004 15:21

I wouldn't push them and say that you are going away - if I were them I would know that wasn't true and it would annoy me that you were being pushy - fraid it is a case of holding out and trying to be patient!!

Agree accept maisonette and then change mind - just make sure HA does not know that you have accepted somewhere else!!

DO you have a great reason why you have to have CH (other than to keep warm of course) - reinulds syndrome or something like that - quick go and get diagnosed - you have sore hands and get really bad pains in fingers when it is cold - it could help you if the HA houes has heating!!!

Lisa78 · 04/05/2004 15:35

accept and reject if house comes thru nutty, definately - but will the ha know you hav accepted it and take you off their list??? Can't you just tell them you are waiting to hear about a house and will let them know then?
Bloody hell, this is ridiculous - its making me tense, so it must be horrendous for you

Nutcracker · 04/05/2004 15:36

Twinkie - My dd is asthmatic and has been hospitalised with pneumonia before now. In the winter we have to have the heat on all day and night to stop her coughing. The council know this but becuase the property has been offered based on the medical priority points awarded to me (for me) then they don't have to consider it.
The H/A know too and i have points for her asthma.

The more i keep going over the conversation in my head, the more i think no one could be so cruel as to say those things and then offer it to someone else, but i just don't know.
I am fairly certain that no one would know if i accept the maisonette but again the tricks that they pull it wouldn't surprise me.
I just cannot risk turning the maisonette down incase i don't get the house.
I think i may say that we are going away on friday so we need to know. Knowing them though they'll just say 'oh thats alright, we'll let you know when we get back.'

God I really can't believe how crap the council housing situation is - it is appalling!!

Oh well will say a little prayer for you and keep my fingers crossed all night for you. XXX

Nutcracker · 04/05/2004 15:39

I always said this would happen, that i get offerd something but be waiting to hear about something else. My life is never simple.
Nothing for 2 years and then 2 at once, typical

oh nut best of luck and i've got everything crossed for you.

misdee · 04/05/2004 17:40

oh my god. you must be on tetherhooks waiting for an assessment. i've just had one done to get back on the exchange list, have to finish the odd jobs we have started here then we can get back on the list.

tell the HA u want an assessment done asap, and tell the council that u dont care the medical points were for u, your dd health matters, print out recommendations from websites about CH and asthma, get your gp involved if u have to. but do stress its unacceptable to accept a property that doesnt have adequate heating for a family. Tell them u dont want to turn the property down, but u will need definate info on grants etc before u cqan accept. hopefully this will give u more time (after 4pm thursday) and hopefully u will get the house.

best of luck, and we are all rooting for u honey.
