oh dear got myself into a pickle here.. dd's teacher (year 1) asked me to go and talk to the class about the new baby (5 weeks) today...

what shall i talk about? what can i take in to show them? if they ask me about feeding... how can i talk about breastfeeding without incurring lots of sniggers from the kiddies... not to mention spare my blushes (although it is a completely natural thing... stil can't help feeling alittle modest when wopping bosoms out or talking about it to a bunch of 5 - 6 yr olds...!)

anyone any ideas???

am taking in some cards which friends and family sent in...

anything else?

much appreciated...

Just talk about bf in clear and simple language - about you making milk for the baby and the baby drinking it from you. It's a great opportunity to 'promote' bf as 'normal' iyswim.

Talk about how often the baby sleeps, why s/he cries and how you comfort him/her, and so on. You will probably get a lot of questions which will keep you going.

5 and 6 year olds shouldn't be too sniggery, older kid yes but at this age they are not too bad and keeping it simple, factual and clear will be fine. I don't think I would feed but thats me, the thought of doing that in front of a crowd all watcing me is a bit much .

When we had mums in they quite often bathed the baby, not always practical though.

Change a nappy, they could pass (a clean) one around to look at.
Get them to compare sizes - eg their sock/baby's sock.

went well... just did a quick 20 mins show and tell... baby dd was an angel throughout and didn't make a sound...

changed a nappy... passed the socks around...

thanks again!

Awh. So cute. I would be so thrilled to do a show and tell with my baby (although not due til May!) Wonder if I could advertise in the local schools?
"Please can I come into your school and show off my baby to the kiddies?"
