Once a child has turned ten, and has commited a crime, who has to pay the fine (for example, is it passed on to the child or to the parents).

Also, question for everyone else!
Do you think that children aged between 8 and 10 who would have been found quilty had they been ten (iyswim)should have the fine passed onto their parents?
And should this be the same for any fine for a child between ten and sixteen?

Thanks

BTW, I have to write a 1000 word essay on if I think that parents should be fined for their childrens crime!

Where would a 10 yr old get the money to pay a fine?? surely only off its parents?

yes i do think that parents should be fined for kids crimes- more incentive to keep them under control.

Thanks tiedmama,
Here I am thinking about working, with a bloody essay to complete by tuesday, amongst others lol

And about the ten year old boy, Im not sure how it works, I thought it would be passed on to the parents, but if it stays with the child, then what happens if they don't pay!

YUp, definately the parents should be made to pay the fine, and they should also be giving some help ...i.e. there often is a reason why a child acts out that wya, and parenting skills might need to be learned or just living skills, i.e. what you live (as a parent) as a rolemodel for them...but then it also really depends on the "crime"
Also, should a 10 year old really get a fine...to me, the support to the parents should be estabilished and the punichment should be more along the lines of helping the community!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I think the parent should be fined up to age 15
and the child from age 16 (they can work then, to pay it off)
punishing the child is pointless if the parents do not care either way; to support the child learning right from wrong...

the parent can then either retrieve the money from the childs future pocket money, or punish the child in another way,

The money from the fine should go to a childrens charity!

A child would learn more from a community service type of punishment than a fine, a fine builds the idea that 'money solves all problems, or you can be bad as long as you can afford to pay...'IYSWIM

?Does this help any?

if the parents dont pay, i think they get prosecuted, prob. along the lines of a court appearence after 6mths unpaid and then ? like an unpaid parking fine I guess
