Driving lessons...should I learn auto or manuel ??

I am having lessons after xmas but can't decide wether to learn automatic or manuel.

I know auto would be easier and easier I would love but once I pass (if ever), I will be looking for a very very very cheap car and am worried auto will limit my choice too much, and also that if ever I needed to drive another car for any reason, I couldn't.

What do you think ?

I would go for manual.

I knew how to drive a manual already, though, b/c my half-German ex taught me how to do it properly.

It just gives you more flexibility, particularly b/c there are a lot of jobs where you may need to drive their car or a company car, too.

manual////absolutely..... then you can drive anything! auto way too limiting if need to go for an older car......!

Oky doky, manuel it is then.

Will start asking round about instructors now then.

Do manual. If you can get an auto after its fantastic, but they are rarer and tend to be a lot more expensive. Also as you say if you need to drive another car for any reason you will be stuck if only have an auto licence.

Much better to get full (manual) than just auto.

got to be manual - may be hell at first but does mean access to wider range of cheaper cars and limits you less in the long run even if you decide to get an automatic eventually.

I spent ages looking for a small cheap automatic, paid too much for it, and still have to drive dh's manual occasionally.

I've had two manual tests, admittedly a number of years ago now. Failed both. Started learning again about three years ago, but just can't get on with manual, all that clutch and gear changing.. I'm going to learn again after Xmas too, and will definately be doing automatic this time. All I need to be able to drive for is get the kids to school etc. I'm not worried about not being able to drive another car. After years of getting on and off buses with pushchairs, shopping etc. and walking everywhere, to be able to drive anything will be so liberating.

agree with everyone else - manual - then you can drive either rather than just an auto and being restricted to an automatic car.

Manual but buy an auto when you pass!!
My mum has had her licence for nearly 20yrs clean no accidents but I can't add her to my insurance as she increases it- whereas my dad doesn't affect it so I always add him after DH and I.
