Why can't I open pdf's is it because I've not got word?

Because I have got adobe acrobat.

Could it just be that they're really slow to download? I refuse to open PDFs because they take fecking ages and I don't have the patience, when we had dial up it could take 10 mins to open one document.

You need a pdf reader, which is downloadable free from the adobe website. If you already have that, then it might be just slow. They do update the readers so it mgiht be worth downloading the new one.
