What's the current thinking on headlice...?

Just had a call from DS's nursery and apparently he has them. What's the best thing considered to be these days - chemical product or combing through daily with conditioner or something else? He hates having his hair washed so I'm in for an interesting time of it whatever happens... [lemonaid toys briefly with the idea of a buzz cut for DS to avoid the issue]

I wouldnt waste my money on chemicals. Combing thoruhg with nit comb must be the best. Never had an infestation of them though.

lots of conditioner and a nitty gritty comb, then repeat 4 days later. hedrin is good you put it on the wash off in the morning, but i prefer combing the little buggers out.

Agree with SEA. Go for the nitty gritty comb.

Nitty gritty stuff seems good (here ) and the comb seems particularly good even if you just use it with conditioner, rather than their stuff - arrives very fast, too - I ordered it about this time on Tuesday, and it arrived in the post on Wednesday morning.

sorry to butt in but if your child is the one that sparks the letter home from school about 'someone having headlice at school', will the school tell you it's your child ????

JackieNo · 03/11/2006 09:48

Sorry trinityrhino, don't know - we noticed DD's at the weekend, and confessed all to the school, so no idea.

southeastastra · 03/11/2006 09:55

ime the school won't tell you, it's up to the parents to check themselves

lemonaidtreasonandplot · 03/11/2006 15:52

Thanks. HAve nitty gritty comb and have had first go through with conditioner (under extreme protest). To be honest I suspect the louse nursery saw may have been the only one, but better safe than sorry...

Lice Attack is a brilliant, non chemical product. Use it with the Nitty Gritty comb - problem solved!

lemonaidtreasonandplot · 03/11/2006 16:57

Left, not right. D'oh...

Sorry. Posted that on the wrong thread. Thanks again!

Hedrin - by far the easiest and most effective. You have to use it twice, 7 days apart, but it shrink-wraps the little beasts.
