To eat? Looking for somewhere quiet, not too trendy, just relaxing.

There is a nice bar/restaurant called Shaws in the Hockley Area, on Broad Street - very chilled and lovely, but not over complicated food. Nice Thai on Goose Gate called Siam Thani (they do the best Green Curry!). Very good Tapas Bar called Bar De Nada which I think is at the very top end of Broad Street. There are probably loads more, but I would personally recommend all of the above. None of them are too pricey either.

Inner city or outskirts? Any particular type of cuisine?

amouse · 31/10/2006 21:23

nothing too fancy just normal food. Maybe outskirts with somewhere to walk after. Where's broad street?

Are you staying in Nottingham city or elsewhere?

There are loads of recommendations - what kind of stuff do you like?

Shaw's is a favourite restaurant of mine - but there are loads of others - depends where you are staying.

Mr Manns chinese next to Wollaton Park is quite nice, mind you, park will be shut at night! Assuming for some reason that you are eating in the evening?!
Otherwise, Tom Brownes at Gunthorpe is DELICIous, and if you're going in daylight hours the nice walks around the river.

Fatcats on Long Row do nice food too - although the service was WAAAAAY slow last time I ate there.

Try www. thisisnottingham.co.uk and look for the Food Sleuth - he reports every week from an eatery in the City!

Prufrock · 31/10/2006 21:47

Captain Caveman - perhaps I have been known to go the Monkey Tree with my antenatal group! Do I lnow you?

Frizombie · 31/10/2006 21:58

Prufrock, did you really I don't recall them wearing those last time I was in there (last summer I think)
Its been ages since I've eaten out in Nottm....the Royal Thai on Mansfield road used to be good if its still there?

Prufrock · 31/10/2006 22:03

Yes I grew up in Lowdham. Stuart actually gave me my first full-time job - I went to Leicester and managed the new restaurant he opened there. That was when I was 18 though - so 14 years ago.

hotmama · 31/10/2006 22:04

Tom Brownes is in Gunthorpe - way out of Nottingham. Bentons is a 'sister' restaurant on the corner of Parliament St/Broad st - I think - food really nice as well.

amouse · 31/10/2006 22:07

what sort of food is Tom Browns?
What sort of food is Shaws?

Its for lunch with my mum

gRowlers · 31/10/2006 22:19

Shaw's is nice but only open in the evening I think.
