auntie\godmother?

Hello. So I have a nephew who is 19 months I have him 1 once a week and a weekend atleast once or twice a month my brother and sister in law are getting him chrisened in may and I'm not being him god mother, they are having god parents who my nephew does not even know and who they hardly see. Am I being unreasonable for being upset and annoyed about this? Sorry about the spelling!

Hi :) I would be well miffed to! But it is there decision and to be honest godparents of my LO never sees him, think as long as your there and present in the little ones life then they will always look up to you, I do see were your coming from though x

I would be really miffed about this. I would say to them perhaps the godparents would like to take over the babysitting for them.

You're the aunty. You're related by blood. That trumps Godmother, surely?

YABU - you're already his aunty. Godparenthood brings more people into the circle of support and love for your nephew. Making any relative a godparent is a wasted opportunity imo. It's not like you'd be any more involved if you were a gp too. It's also a bit inappropriate imo because in most families you'd expect to end up with a few nephews and nieces in the end, and you'd end up either being godparent to all of them or in an awkward position because neither playing favourites nor failing to do extra for your godchild is acceptable!

You are already a very special person in his life. Having others to support him as well will be lovely.
I don't see the point in asking an Aunty to be a Godparent - you don't end up treating them any differently from all your nieces/nephews, because you love all of them equally. With a friend to be Godparent, then they have a special bond just with that friend and still have a fantastic Aunty to boot.
