Provisional driving licence - online application

So I was proceeding to go ahead with the online application ( via the Direct Gov link) & I don't have a passport - it expired in Jan, but this didn't prove to be a problem. I was going to pay but then thought how do they know it's me as they obviously haven't requested any photos or documents? How does that work? They did ask for my maiden name & NI number.

For a provisional thats all they need. If it asks for your maiden name & NI they can get everything from that. I have never had a passport but been driving 18 years. A provisional licence doesnt warrant photo ID as you are not yet licensed to drive on your own.

A provisional needs a photo though.

Are you sure it's not one of those conning websites that send you the completed firm for you then to attach the shizzle and pay again?

No saying that my daughter did it all online and it was the real thing.

You definitely need a photo! They're really useful for ID for 18+ year-olds.
Either you're on the wrong website or you haven't read it through

I stand corrected, well it is donkeys years since my provisional. Ive just looked at the official website and explains very clearly about providing a photo & getting it countersigned by someone if no passport. you cant miss it! which site you using???
