I have a friend visiting who breast feeds her 1yr old son. As he is not with her on this trip she has had to express some off. Should she have thrown away her milk or fed it to my 5week old son.

It doesn't quite sit right with us but we can't really say why.

definately not if you are bfding as it could mess up your milk supply (i.e. baby feeding less= produce less milk).

2ndly you would have to be sure htat she is free from any infections that could be passed on to your child.

PErsonally I wouldn't but some wouldn't see a problem with it.

I dont understand the question- you think that she should have given your son her milk? is that right?

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 28/10/2006 20:43

If you're breastfeeding she most definitely shouldn't feed it to your son, as ilc says because of messing up your supply.

If not, it wouldn't bother me unless she did have an infection.

It would have given you a break!! I wouldn't want my children drinking somebody elses milk. Each to their own, if you have a hospital local to you maybe she could drop some of their as I think they use it in the SCBU.

I wouldn't expect her to either though. (Would be a bit of a demand from a guest)

i wouldnt want to give someone elses to a child of mine

Beabea · 28/10/2006 20:49

Im not breast feeding. Also sorry but this wasnt for real. We just wondered after the milk had been thrown.

If the thought of offering crossed her mind, she probably decided against just in case you were offended. I wouldn't offer, in case it was taken the wrong way.
