My ds is 3yrs 1 month and am on 5th day of potty training and its not going well at all.

Feeling a total failure and Ds seems so behind his other friends as they were dry in day at 2 and a half.

Were they really??

You are NOT a failure, sounds like he's just not ready yet.
Life is too short for competitive potty training. DD decided she was ready WAY before I was but not much help with boys yet as DS only 11mths.

Give it a break for a few weeks and try again. If he knows you are stressed I doubt it will work.
Good luck

We tried Ds when he was 2 and a half and abandoned it on day 3. We tried again when he was nearly three and had success immediately. Please try not to feel pressured because of DS's friends. Only you and your DS will know when the time is right for him.

Your right of course, i thought this week would be good as half term but im just nagging him all the time for a wee. Then 2 mins later he wil wee on the floor. Totally stressed

8 of my children have potty trained between the ages of 2y and 2.5y. Dc9 is 3y4m and until 2weeks ago just wasn't interested at all. In fact she would cry if I even suggested that she left her nappy off. 2wks ago she came downstairs with knickers on and said that she wasn't wearing nappies anymore
She still refused the potty but went straight to the toilet. Day 1 -wee'd everywhere. Days 2 & 3 no more than 3 accidents. Ever since, she goes to the toilet. I am amazed as I was beginning to think that "perhaps we should be doing something more than just leaving her to it".
The week before she decided to stop the nappies, dh bought her some Dora the Explorer knicks. She wouldn't wear them but carried them around with her. However, we think they must have been the thing that helped her make her mind up.
Try not to compare. Your ds will do it in his own time.

Don't worry. DS2 didn't bother until he was 3.8, and then like juuule's dd, was furnished with some new cartoon pants and a new potty to take on holiday. As soon as we arrived he used the potty, day 2 gave up potty in favour of toilet, day 3 starting doing standing up wees, and that was it, done all by himself. When i'd tried before i think he didn't like the nagging, and also probably wasn't physically mature enough to control himself.

Right thats it then, im going to enjoy the rest of this half term and pop his nappy back on. We will both be happier then. Many Thanks

Neither ds1, nor ds2 were ready till over 3. With ds1 I started at 2.2 and tried for a year to train him! Very stupid of me. With ds2 I waited till he was 3, he got it within 3-4 weeks. Much more sensible.
I had assumed, by the way that because ds1 was so advanced in his speech, could read, count calculate etc that potty training would be a breeze. But it doesn't necessarily follow!

with DS it quite literally was one day.It had snowed the day before and during the night and we decided to stay at home all day and play in the garden in the snow. That night I washed 8 pairs of pants and 8 pairs of tracksuit bottoms! Whenever he peed I waited a few mins for him to feel the wetness and talked about how wet and horrible it was before changing him into fresh clothes and then back out into the garden (so accidents really didn't matter).
And I can honestly say that we cracked it in that one day. The next day we went to an arts and crafts session as normal and even ventured to Pizza Hut as a treat and DS asked for the toilet and did his first poo on the toilet in Pizza Hut!
But he was nearly 3 and I think I was lucky and got the timing just right.
