Prolific MN posting, do you admire it or pity it?

There are quite a few mn members who seem like they are on here literally all the time. Is it not a tad unhealthy to be on the internet so much?

OP posts:
ClutterJunkie · 27/10/2006 23:28

i'd much rather spend time chatting to real people...but as a mum of 2 autistic children- and a 3rd being assessed for autism etc...it is difficult for me to even have a 5 minute conversation socially...let alone get help and support- which is exactly what i have got from mn over the years.

so..in the past i have had days when i have depended on mn to answer my posts...to keep me going.

I also have OCD and find going outside the home very difficult... so personally if mn became my only link with RL... i'd be happy...

even family etc don't visit cos they cannot tollerate the noise etc that my 3 boys make....

so though i've never been someone to post all day long...i am glad that some do...as i'm sure they too have their reasons for turning to mn

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2006 23:31

Stitch, is this you again?

bluejelly · 27/10/2006 23:31

I post a lot at work, don't have quite enough to do and it helps the day go faster (don't tell my boss though)
Am posting tonight cos am waiting for my bf to come round and dont want to go to sleep yet..

By the way do people think I am a prolific poster? Amm curious as not sure where I fit on the scale

FreakyFloss · 27/10/2006 23:32

I too go through phases. The posters I am always wary of are ones jump in with both feet. They are the ones who often seem to crash and burn quite spectaclarly at some point or another (juge Flounce anyone?)

moondog · 27/10/2006 23:33

No problem with it.
I lived on MN when I was stuck in Isolated Turkey with a new baby and small child over a very lonely snowy winter.
It saved my life.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2006 23:35

Oh yes bluejelly! You post everywhere

I post alot. Don't really care what folk think of that tbh.

I was just thinking tonight that I would love to have RL friends in easy reach, someone to share the lovely rosé I'm drinking. But we moved to a small town, 500km away from our friends, 2.5 years ago and have never really had time/energy/inclination to make friends in the immediate vicinity (FT job, birth of ds, miscarriages, smalltown mindset here) - plus we are moving away again in a few months - we always knew it'd be temporary. I'm not one of those very prolific posters, but it is lovely to come on MN in the evenings when ds is asleep, 'see' people I 'know' and vicariously 'join in' their chat.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/10/2006 23:37

moondog it saved mine when i was a sahm with a baby. made my brain feel like it was working again.

bluejelly · 27/10/2006 23:37

Do I really?

moondog · 27/10/2006 23:39

Quite Sophable.
I need it less now that have a semblance of a life but still think it is brilliant and that the Internet and forums like this are the best thing ever for new mothers apart, possibly from unfeasible amounts of Chablis with dinner.

hunkermunker · 27/10/2006 23:39

Name them, NES.

Then they'll maim you

Seriously...

I post loads some days, not at all other days. I guess I'm fairly prolific though - I read fast, think fast and type fast. I pity you if you're not as genius-like as me and can't run a house, bring up two gorgeous boys and work part time, as well as posting prolifically With My Breasts, really.

moondog · 27/10/2006 23:40

Hunker, what are you doing re the job?
The early stint???

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2006 23:41

No, I was teasing Bluej!!!

Hunker, I do absolutely everything With My Breasts. Couldnt agree more.

Kidstrack · 27/10/2006 23:43

i post loads on one day then probably none for about 3days sometimes i can be away for weeks at a time, then i lose everything thats why i prefer to pop on now and again even if i don't post i still know whats happening

FreakyFloss · 27/10/2006 23:43

can you knit with your breasts? And cook with them?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2006 23:43

Absolutely.

bluejelly · 27/10/2006 23:45

Honestly for a moment I thought that everytime I posted people must think 'oh god not that bloody bluejelly again'
A rare paranoid moment, thankfully passed

Oh and to go back to the OP I think it could be unhealthy if your RL suffered but thankfully we all seem to be pretty good at juggling stuff

FreakyFloss · 27/10/2006 23:45

Yours must be rather more 'far reaching' than mine then!

wrinklytum · 27/10/2006 23:47

Think I have become sadly addicted.Found mn when going through bad patch with dd,but it has helped me.Not prolific poster, but it's my wind down at end of day and helps me get adult convos and laugh lots.

hunkermunker · 28/10/2006 12:08

MD, no, am doing two full days atm and will do three after Christmas. I am loving it The early shift was a possibile musing for when the boys are at school [plans ahead]
