for a lost love song, i like love song for a vampire by annie lennox

Love Song For A Vampire

Come into these arms again
and lay your body down
The rhythm of this trembling heart
is beating like a drum
It beats for you it bleeds for you
it knows not how it sounds
For it is the drum of drums
it is the song of songs

Once I had the rarest rose
that ever deemed to bloom
Cruel winter chilled the bud
and stole my flower too soon
Oh loneliness Oh hopelessness
to search the ends of time
For there is in all the world
no greater love than mine.

Love o love o .... still falls the rain
Love o love o .... still falls the night
Love o love o .... damned forever

Let me be the only one
to keep you from the cold
Now the floor of heaven is laid
the stars are bright as gold
They shine for you they shine for you
they burn for all to see
Come into these arms again
and set this spirit free

schneebly · 23/10/2006 12:12

My heart was broken, my heart was broken
Sorrow Sorrow Sorrow Sorrow
My heart was broken, my heart was broken
You saw it, You claimed it
You touched it, You saved it

My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou
My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Your beauty and kindness
Made tears clear my blindness
While I'm worth my room on this earth
I will be with you
While the Chief, puts Sunshine On Leith
I'll thank him for his work
And your birth and my birth.

We danced to this for our first wedding dance!

Harpsi - love both those! (but not as love songs)
Also love Street Spirit (Fading out) by Radiohead

Dh and I share Another Girl, Another Planet as 'our' love song (but have later found out it's about Heroin...)

I love Sinead O Connor, Troy as an angst ridden unrequited love song, also Underneat the Stars by Kate Rusby which makes me sob every time I hear it. And as I am trying to see how many times we can mention The Cure A Night Like This, this week, I also love that song as another 'love affair gone wrong' song. (Miserable somgs make me happy - wierdo emoticon

Kate Rusby - underneath the stars

Underneath the stars I'll meet you
Underneath the stars I'll greet you
There beneath the stars I'll leave you
Before you go of your own free will

Go gently

Underneath the stars you met me
Underneath the stars you left me
I wonder if the stars regret me
At least you'll go of your own free will

Go gently

Here beneath the stars I'm landing
And here beneath the stars not ending
Why on earth am I pretending?
I'm here again, the stars befriending
They come and go of their own free will

Go gently
Go gently

Underneath the stars you met me
And Underneath the stars you left me
I wonder if the stars regret me
I'm sure they'd like me if they only met me
They come and go of their own free will

Go gently
Go gently
Go gently

Schneebly - saw them live this summer and wandered off to bed happily hand in hand with dh, singing this along with 1000s of others! I think the Proclaimers are very much underappreciated

schneebly · 23/10/2006 12:14

I like this one too...

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

A window breaks, down a long, dark street
And a siren wails in the night
But I'm alright, 'cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see, through the dark there is light

Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much

It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way the back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong

I totally agree with you fullmoonfiend! They are brilliant - the 1st band DH and I saw together. We both love them as do my DSs!

LieselVonTrappDoor · 23/10/2006 12:45

All the time in the world, Louis Armstrong

Whoowhoobewhooooooh · 23/10/2006 12:52

Autumn Stone by The Small Faces (except for the stupid jangly bit at the end).

Makes me feel all tingly.

Mateychops · 23/10/2006 13:18

Liesel, tell the truth - I know you cry at Westlife, 'You raise me up'

LieselVonTrappDoor · 23/10/2006 14:50

OMG I hate that song its just the worst.

marymillington · 23/10/2006 14:58

either Into My Arms or The Ship Song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

schneebly - I love Feels Like Home too -whose version are you singing in your head?

Mateychops · 23/10/2006 16:55

Liesel, you've got 'You raise me up' as your ring tone, admit it

aDadOnMumsnet · 23/10/2006 17:04

Here today, gone tomorrow by The Ramones. Think it's the only slow song they ever did.

As for love songs generally... BLEUUUURRRGHH!

Sorry I'd better clean that up.

schneebly · 23/10/2006 17:09

marymillington - I have only heard one version by some Canadian woman called Chantal Kreviazuk or something - lovely song.

foxinsocks · 23/10/2006 17:12

I'm not a big fan of love songs but I do have a soft spot for,

Al Green's Lets Stay Together and
The Waterboys' The Whole of the Moon

aDadOnMumsnet · 23/10/2006 17:15

oh actually, giving it some more thought...

'13 wonderful love songs' by 'a house'

KT Tunstall Universe & U.

cupsnakes · 23/10/2006 17:21

I have such bad taste.
Yesterday I heard Chicago 'If You Leave Me Now' (oooooh - baby, please don't go!!) on the radio and I cried (serious hormonal alert).
Also sang along to Woman In Love by Barbra Streisand (I do love the Streisand).

Am also very fond of Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet.

beckybraAAARGHstraps · 23/10/2006 17:24

For Lost Loves:
Sweet bitter love, Aretha Franklin

For romance:
When a man loves a woman, Percy Sledge
First time ever I saw your face, Roberta Flack
Let's stay together, Al Green

For whirling round the dance floor with dh and a cheesy grin:

The First, my last, my everything, Barry White
It must be love, Madness

I know, I know. You'd think I'd be embarrassed, but I'm not. I love 'em!

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 23/10/2006 18:21

Well if we're doing lyrics, here's Songbird. Read em and weep (had it at my wedding)

For you there'll be no crying
For you the sun will be shining
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you
It's all right I know it's right

And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score
And I love you I love you I love you
Like never before

To you I would give the world
To you I'd never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you
It's all right I know it's right

Zippetydoodahzippetyday · 23/10/2006 18:37

If you're not the one by Daniel Bedingfield.

Also like "you do something to me" by Paul Weller and "you're the best thing" by Style Council - classics.

LieselVonTrappDoor · 23/10/2006 19:49
