I sort of know where it is ... but nothing really about it ... but could probably find out for you. What is it in particular that you want to know??

Nutcracker · 22/04/2004 16:45

We emailed a bloke ages ago as he had a 4 bed house to let there for 420 a month. At the time he emailed us back to say it had gone, but it's now available again.
Obviously being in Brum i can't just pop up/down (never could get that right) and have a look.
He wants to know if we are still interested otherwise he is going to put it up with an agency.

Nutty, I don't know very much about Micklefield itself but it's very close to Garforth which is a nice place and has a secondary school with an excellent reputation. Oh, and a Monkey Maze!

tiredemma · 22/04/2004 16:51

nutty, its an old mining village just outside leeds.
because of the mine closing down a few years ago its an area of high unemployment, also something for you to think about is that its quite remote and apparently the bus service is not very reliable so if you dont drive youd be a bit stuck.
i have a friend who lives near there, i asked him for you when i saw your post, he used to live with us as a lodger before i had alfie, i asked is he had a choice between sutton or micklefield he said sutton any day, there are a lot of drugs in that area also. he gave me the local post code as LS25 so maybe that will give you more info if you search for it on the internet, the local school also goes by the name of the village, dont know if it will have an ofsted report?

littlemissbossy · 22/04/2004 16:52

good access for motorway network ... but that's probably all micklefield has to offer - SORRY any mumsnetters who live there!! I am Leeds girl born and bred, so, I can tell you that £420 p.m. for a 4 bed house is a bargain, so the area ain't great!! If you need any help with other areas, just ask. Are you looking to move up north?

GillW · 22/04/2004 17:03

Brother in Law used to live there. Smallish ex-mining village just off the A1, with a railway station. Sort of split into 2 parts (old/new), think there was a school in the old half. Can't remember much else about it though - will ask DH when I get home.

Nutcracker · 22/04/2004 17:04

Oh well never mind. Thought it was probably too good to be true.

Littlemissbossy - We are considering anywhere at the mo as we are desperate to move.

Why Leeds? can you relocate jobs etc. Leeds is great by the way

Nutcracker · 22/04/2004 17:09

LMB - Like i said, we are desperate to move. Would prefer to stay in the area we are in, but as we need rehousing by the council or H/A then we have no chance really.
My dp could probably transfer, he works for a pest control company.

Is there no chance at all of being rehoused in the near future then, somewhere closer to home. Leeds as a city is great, good employment opportunities etc, close to yorkshire dales, etc but it's not exactly on Birmingham's doorstep... are you close to your family/wouldn't you miss your friends ... or are you looking for a fresh start somewhere new?

Nutcracker · 22/04/2004 17:51

Well i have been waiting two years already, and now the waiting time just for a flat here has increased from 3 years to 6. There is an empty 4 bed house at the mo but i stand very little chance of getting it (am trying though).

I would miss my family yeah, perhaps it's not such a good idea. I just get carried away when i see that there is something available, where ever it is.

Sorry nutcracker if I didn't get back to you earlier ... dss using laptop for homework that he should have done in the holidays!!! Although I can tell you're desperate for an improvement to your housing situation, try not to rush into something just for the sake of it ... moving house is stressful enough, but moving to a different part of the country is another thing entirely! If however, you decide to pursue the moving to Leeds thing and you want advice on an area, just post a thread and I'll give you my opinion. Hope it all works out for you and your family. LMB
