I'm constantly signed in to MSN - even when I'm not. HELP!

ITs driving me potty! I want to sign in when I log on, and when I go to do it, it processes the sign in but alittle box pops up saying "you have been signed out of .net messenger service".

I think to others it looks like I'm online all the time - DH doesn't "do" MSN and when he's on the pc during hte day, people message him thinking its me! I want to be able to log on when I'M on, not just be on all the time.

Does this make any sense? Please help

Do you sign out when you've finished each time?

MamaGhoul · 19/10/2006 12:43

yes - its like I've got two versions running, this .net thingy and the "proper" MSN.

is that possible?!

MamaGhoul - will be watching this as it's happening here too (new laptop and me clueless on Windows XP isn't helping). Ours has ds2 signed in automatically - I sign in, but he stays signed in - how can that be?

Ds2 says it's something to do with MSN and Windows Messenger (are they different?).

Clueless in Staffs.

anorak · 19/10/2006 12:46

I guess it is. I updated my msn to windows live messenger recently but the email bit wouldn't load. So I can use the new messenger facility but I've lost the email bit and don't know how to put it right.

I need my friend Christie's husband to come round and fix it for me!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/10/2006 12:47

I think it's the Windows Messenger bit on mine that's permanently signed in, maybe.....

MamaGhoul · 19/10/2006 12:49

so we're all scratching our heads then

Yep - I can sign in in MSN and 'talk' to ds2 - except he's not really there so I can answer myself.

Tidy your room!

OK

Eat all your carrots.

Yes mum.

Can I raid your bank account for those shoes I'd like?

Of course mum, you go ahead!

LOL

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 19/10/2006 12:55

lol

MamaGhoul · 19/10/2006 12:56

oh and if I'm chatting to my Mum (she will send first message) and want to put her webcam on for the kids, it won't.

I have to log into the "proper" MSN.

SOMEBODY must be able to help us poor thicko MNMSNers!

Definately sounds like you have windows messenger and msn running. Mine used to have both on and do the 'you have been signed out of .net'.
If you look under the program menu, and windows messenger is there open it up and select options from the tools menu, you should be able to turn off the 'sign me in automatically'. This is what I did to mine and it solved it. HTH

mummylin2495 · 19/10/2006 13:07

actually wrote to msn people because i didnt know how to stop windows mess coming up.they sent ma back instructions on how to completely disable windows one coming up,then i installed msn.i think sometimes the windows mess takes priority unless you tick a certain box i will try and find the paper i printed out and pass on the info they gave me

DumbledoresGirl · 19/10/2006 13:07

Have you upgraded recently? This happned to me about a year ago when I upgraded. basically, I had two msns. It drove me nuts too, but now that I have upgraded to the newest msn service, it doesn't happen anymore.

mummylin2495 · 19/10/2006 13:11

if anyone needs this info i will scan it and send it on to you ,there is too much to write on here !

MamaGhoul · 19/10/2006 14:59

Right, I've tried Lrkids suggestion so hopefully it will work - mummylin, if it doesn't I'll ask you to scan your info, if thats ok

Thanks millions
