Any hippyish areas in Cheshire?

Friend of mine's DH wants to move up North and they reckon Cheshire is a good distance between relatives etc but don't know it at all really. Can anyone tell me the areas most inhabited by hippies/bohos, new age / arty types so I can give her some ideas?

Went to Chester for the weekend a couple of weeks ago and there seemed to be quite a few about - also glam wealthy types - don't know if that would put you off.
Got handed a leaflet all about 'alternative highs' - there's a hippy type Herbalist in the city centre so presumably they must have a market?

Come to Midwales, alot of us here

lulumama · 18/10/2006 16:48

never heard Cheshire described as hippyish...!!! i;ve lived in manchester and am now in merseyside..

certain bits of south manchester bit more boho - but VVVVVVVVV expensive to buy .....

zippitippitoes · 18/10/2006 16:54

I think it's more footballers and wives isn't it?

what about hebden bridge

MerlinsBeard · 18/10/2006 16:57

can't think of anywhere hippyish....am south manchester/cheshire.

alderly edge is quite mythical and EXPENSIVE

chester full of students but also a little bit arty

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 18/10/2006 18:31

LOL, I've heard about Alderley Edge and its mythical houseprices.
She's not really in a hippyish area now but it is full of lentilweavers and Guardian readers in ethnic skirts with vegboxes and reflexologists. Does that help narrow down the search?

didsbury
south manchester

Whizzz · 18/10/2006 18:38

Places like Lymm are quite 'Boden-ish' with smatterings of Bo-Ho....

Nothing immediately springs to mind though..cant say Ive noticed too many hippies hanging out round here

Cheshire is all Ladies who lunch and Footballer's Wives. Withington (S Manchester) is your best bet for hippyish? Maybe?

MerlinsBeard · 18/10/2006 19:40

not all cheshire is like that loL! where i am is cheshire! she wants places like high lane, didsbury, possibly knutsford (is that cheshire??)parts of hazel grove too.

tbh you can gey organic veggies delivered, lots of ppl wear 'ethnic skirts' esp during summer at the mo anyway and i didn't know lentil weaving was real til i came on MN!!

liquidclocks · 18/10/2006 19:47

You can get organic veg boxes delivered in Glazebury, Culcheth, Kenyon area (in between Manchester and Liverpool) - does that count?!

Tell her to look further north to Lancaster - far nicer and loads more reflexologists

Tinker · 18/10/2006 19:48

Yes, High Lane and Disley New Mills?????????

mancmum · 18/10/2006 19:49

I would say Chorlton is a good place - in manchester not cheshire... lots of hippy types live there that and Withington got more of an edge than didsbury which is now so expenseive you have to conform and get a proper job to live there!

MerlinsBeard · 18/10/2006 19:51

new mills yes thats the one i couldn't rememeber! also marple bridge

Tinker · 18/10/2006 19:54

Ooo, Marple Bridge is lovely. Chorlton edgy too.
