Do you give your cleaner a pay rise or wait for her to ask?

Because my friend thinks I'm mad for giving my cleaner (she has same one) a rise after a years wonderful service.

I gave her the same % that I had given myself (I'm self employed). I gave myself more than inflation so I gave it to her too.

My friend thinks I'm insane - I think I'm fair.

My mum reckons she left me because she's too scared to tell my friend she is leaving!
