no help here I'm afraid, but I do remember it was all quite bonkers

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 20:40

It ended shit.

SPOILERS

The whole thing was a lucid dream he'd bought for after he'd died.

What really happened is that his face had gotten all messed up in the accident.

He was in pain, and one night, whilst drunk and high on pain killers and booze, he met the ever-annoying Penelope Cruz, whom he instantly recognised at The Love of His Life, at a night club.

After telling her goodnight, he fell over drunk and passed out.

Before putting himself - but not us - out of his misery by ODing on painkillers and dying, he made a lucid dream featuring the ever-annoying Penelope Cruz as the Love of His Life.

But it got all cocked up and he realised All Was Not As It Seemed.

When he finally realised that the man he kept seeing was in fact LE tech support, he decided to pursue the real hereafter by jumping off a building.

Too bad he didn't do that in the first 2 minutes of the movie.

I'm with you EIS - one of the worst films I've ever seen. Pretentious garbage.

MadameMorticiaMills · 17/10/2006 20:42

like I said, bonkers.

MadameMorticiaMills · 17/10/2006 20:43

and shite.

southeastastralplain · 17/10/2006 20:43

expat

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 20:45

I should have listened to my sister, who is a Vinn Diesel fan.

Her review was as follows:

Tom Cruise is a bad actor. Penelope Cruz is a bad actress. 'Vanilla Sky' is a bad movie.

gRowlers · 17/10/2006 20:47

I saw that film ages ago and didn't realise that was what it was all about.
Complete crock of shit.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 20:49

My dad just said, 'Oh, shit! That ended dumb.'

My sister paid money to see it at cinema.

She always was a sucker.

tiptoes · 17/10/2006 20:52

Thanks everyone, bit like Eyes wide shut that was confusing as well.
My DH has just asked why is Penelope Cruz annoying?
He says she can annoy him anytime she likes !!

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 20:55

Eyes Wide Shut was another pile of cack.

RottenOtter · 17/10/2006 21:04

whooooaaa!!
I LOVED Vanilla Sky the three times i have watched it.
fabulous and unforgetable. Cruise ( and cruz) both give memorable and cutting performances and the twist at the end is 'different' in the extreme. I think its a love it or hate it kinda film.
I loved it.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 21:05

Penelope Cruz shouldn't be allowed to speak.

Even in Spanish films.

She's still cack.

She should go back to pouting in front of the camera, collecting huge paycheques for it and leave the rest of us in peace.

RottenOtter · 17/10/2006 21:07

she was great in that - how can sshe not pout when blessed with such lips

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 21:09

Yeah, b/c she says three lines, 'I luff you' and giggles. And pouts.

FFS.

That's posing, not acting.

He's beyond redemption.

Fair enough.

My bad for even clapping my eyes on anything he's in.

Perigrine · 17/10/2006 21:12

EIS in the red corner

Otter in the blue

FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

come on, fair fight and everyone else is !!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE

Zippetydoodahzippetyday · 17/10/2006 21:14

I really was looking forward to seeing this and DP bought it for me one Xmas.

We settled down to watch it on Xmas day night and it was totally crap, really rubbish......was so fed up and so was DP that he'd actually bought it!!!!

We car booted it not long after.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 21:14

I wouldn't have paid 10p for it.

RottenOtter · 17/10/2006 21:16

I can honestly say the first time i saw VS i was mermerised by it. Cruise may be an RL tosser but he was perfect in that film.
It took my breath away and dominated my thoughts for a couple of days ... great title

Zippetydoodahzippetyday · 17/10/2006 21:17

Preferred Top Gun tbh - he was nice totty in that but in VS he was quite nerdy.

southeastastralplain · 17/10/2006 21:18

it's a remake, i remember watching the first hour of the original but fell asleep and missed the rest. the orig one was quite good

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 21:18

Yeah, it dominated my thoughts for a while, too.

For the five minutes I sat incadescent w/rage that I'd wasted my time in such a despicable manner when I should have known better.

I mean, Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz in the same film?!

I didn't even have the excuse of being drunk, either.

southeastastralplain · 17/10/2006 21:23

Abre los ojos - although penelope cruz is in this one too

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 18/10/2006 10:20

I haven't seen it myself but wondered what you all thought of the character played by My name Is Earl (Jason Lee)? He's the only reason I'd want to watch it.

Eyes Wide Shut was only good in the rude bits and they were too quick .
