The children are driving me mad just lately so I thought I'd put things in perspective and think about all the lovely things they do. If we have a thread about the things we love most about our children, we can look back at it on tough days and remind ourselves how lucky we are to have them.

So I'll start:

The way they dance when my mobile starts ringing

The way DD1 dances to the sound of the washing machine

The way they hug and kiss me

The way they run round the room scratching their armpits saying "oo oo oo" pretending to be monkeys

The way DD1 hides behind the curtain when she's got something she knows she's not allowed (DD2 starting to do this now too)

OP posts:

The way dd2 (one year) says 'Row Row Row' everytime I put a CD on, so I end up playing 'Row Row Row your Boat' and she dances.

The way ds has started to clamber into my lap while he is playing with something.

The cheesy grin he does that involves scrunching his whole face up and showing all his teeth.

The huge amount of excitement and pride he seemed to feel when seeing his first pair of shoes!

northerner · 16/10/2006 11:09

DS is 4:

The way he always tells me he loves me

The way he loves the X factor and runs to tell me my fave show is about to begin

The way he asks loads of really interesting questions and you can actually see him processing teh answer

The way he show everyone his 'fang' teeth as he is so proud of them

The way he won't wear a halloween mask beacuse 'he will scare himself'

CrocodileKate · 16/10/2006 11:10

The way they laugh.

madmarchscare · 16/10/2006 11:13

When he tells me Im beautiful even when I feel and look like shit.

izzybiz · 16/10/2006 12:00

Dd does a penguin impression that is so cute i could cry!

She now says " lub you mummy"!

She also strokes my face when she is in my bed in the mornings.

Ds is nearly 14, but always so patient with Dd who is 2, he plays with her, reads to her, and is just the best big bro!

He is also really caring if im a bit off colour.

FreakyFloss · 16/10/2006 12:05

The way DS hmmms to himself when tired and touches my face.

the way he is obsessed with the cat 'hello cat!'.

that all things naughty to eat are called 'coco'.

the way he pronounces mummy 'memmy' haven't the heart to correct him - daddy is occaisionally dedah.

the way he smells.

robin3 · 16/10/2006 12:06

The way DS1 screams 'u u oodle oow' instead of cock-a-doodle-doo when he wants to get out of his cotbed in the morning.

The way DS1 experiments by looking at me sideways.

The way DS1 plays with his little people and reinacts the day.

The way DS1 picks up the phone and chatters away to his mates even when they're not there.

The way DS2 looks when he has just finished his milk....cheeks all puffed out and dribbly mouth like a contented budha.

The way DS2 looks when he's suprised....sort of baby crazed stare.

laudaud · 16/10/2006 12:59

Belgo - My DD (16 months)does that too - very cute. Helps me get a bit of exercise to flatten my tummy too.

sandyballs · 16/10/2006 13:10

Well my 5 year old twin DDs haven't been getting on very well this weekend, lots of fighting and squabbling between them which upsets me and DH.
I dropped them off at school this morning and watched them disappear up the corridor. One turned right and one turned left to their different classes and I saw DD1 calling DD2 back.
They had a huge hug and kiss and then went their separate ways. Made me realise that they do really love each other so this is my favourite thing about them today

hollys1mum · 17/10/2006 14:21

my dd is running me round in circles at the moment, but i can't help but laugh at her impressions of me telling her off! she puts her hands on her hips, waggles her finger and says 'don't shout me mummy, you a naughty girl you go to your bedroom!' it has me in stitches. bless her the little madam.

clairemow · 17/10/2006 14:25

Oh I like this thread, having had a morning from hell.

I love:

DS1 dancing and falling down when the music "stops"
DS1 saying "love you mummy" last thing at night
DS1 playing hide and seek, but running out as he can't wait for me to find him!
DS1 climbing into our bed in the morning and hiding under the covers from the "big hippo"

DS2 staring up with big blue eyes and grinning (he's only 7 weeks)
the top of DS2's head

expatinscotland · 17/10/2006 14:27

DD1
Her contentment. She is so happy w/herself and peaceful.

Her sweet nature.

Her voice. It sounds like a song to me. She has the gentlest accent.

The way she's so happy when she wakes up.

Her long, chesnut hair w/streaks of gold and her true green eyes.

Her coltish legs and height.

DD2
The way she claps her chubby baby hands when she's happy.

Her soft, round head.

Her plump body.

Her smile w/two little teeth.

Her squeals.

The way she scoots round on her bum.

Flamebat · 17/10/2006 14:32

DD:

The way she is so loud - it is good to HEAR how happy she is

The way she wants to hug and kiss all her friends (they aren't always so keen on that aspect of her)

The way she tells me whenever she sees a "B" for "me"

The way she knows (with a wicked glint in her eye) that if she tells me something makes her HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE happy that I find it so sweet that she gets away with it

DS:

The way he sleeps

The huge grins he gives me

The way he lets his sister yank him about without making a peep.

Flamebat · 17/10/2006 14:33

Oh, and the way she asks if every singer on the radio is "Robbie Winniams" because he is the only name she knows!!

Flamebat · 17/10/2006 14:35

DS is only 8 months, hence the shorter list... he is also much much more placid than DD so just being "him" is his biggest appeal after the whirlwind that is DD

shhhh · 17/10/2006 17:37

dd: (17 months)

  1. The way she smiles at everything,
  1. When I am sat down and she comes and stands between my legs while holding onto my legs,
  1. The huge grin she gives me when she wakes,
  1. The way she talks non stop although I don't
understand a word..!!
  1. When she puts her hands up for a love and a kiss..her sloppy kisses are devine...
  1. The way she waits at the tops of the stairs for "mummy" to carry her down.
  1. Her smell..........................
theunknownrebelbang · 17/10/2006 17:49

Mine are older but...

The way DS1 is developing a more mature sense of humour, and watching that grin appear across his face. Plus, he's learning when I'm fed up - and asks if I want a cuppa, tis lovely.

The way DS2 has with smaller children/babies.

The way DS3 jumps up me for a hug when I walk back into the house.

The way the younger two dive into bed in a morning for cuddles n hugs before the day begins.
