maybe loft man did it and it wasn't working before

Are you sure the bulb wasn't just loose and you assumed it had packed in? And the loft man could have turned the switch off when he was up there last week?

Got to be a rational explanation!

After my sister died my parents doorbell used to ring its self sometimes it would ring once other times it would ring for an hour .When my nana died a few months later and my parents returned from the home the day she died ,the doorbell started to ring so fast like someone was excitedly ringing it .When me and my sis were kids we used to play tricks on my parents and one of them was ringing the doorbell !We like to think that it was my sister and she was excited cos my nana was there.

Nah - there's got to be a rational explanation for this.

My doorbell goes through phases of not working and then works perfectly fine for weeks before playing up again. Dodgy connection or something!

But the door bell wasn't faulty and it would ring most times when there was some sort of significance for example at 4.am my mom used to get up to make her a hot water bottle at this time .Or if mom was still in bed at a certain time and it would even start to ring if you were by the doorbell.

Oh, well I am going to sound dumb now, but if it was me - the "security" light being switched off...Husband = security iyswim...But then I clutch at straws to make sense of the world.

Most likely there was a wee mousie in there and it trod on the switch.

Just one of those things, you'll never know the answer to. Odd things happen all the time. Maybe the loft extension man switched/knocked the switch anyway and you wouldn't notice because they weren't working.

For about 3 months after my DH died the bed side light would turn on after I had turned it out and was dropping asleep. It never worried me at all and I got a great sense of comfort from it. I was sad when it happened less and less then stopped.

It once happened around the same time when I stayed at a friends house. Her bed side light turned on. She lept out of bed frightened and I explained it had happened at home etc.(We were sharing a bed,due to her having no spare bed and no DP!) She was really upset because the lamp was broken and hadn't worked for months!

I firmly believe they do make contact in what ever way they can.xx
