So, what are your half term plans?

After a year and half out of teaching and being free to have time off as and when I want, DD is now in school - so holidays are decided for me again!

And half term holiday is coming up - just a week away. This past half term has gone so quick!
Do you have any plans? Going away? Out and about anywhere ? Or just chilling?

We have booked a house in Northern France, not far from Le Touquet. We drive down to the tunnel on Saturday morning for the 11am train. And we are staying for a week. Just will be nice to get away and chill somewhere else for a while. Looking forward to it, although it has suddenly just crept up on us!

you lukcy, lucky thing

I really wanted to go to France but we can't really afford it

so no plans really - just chilling at home

hulababy · 14/10/2006 20:37

Ours has been somewhat of a bargain, although still dearer than staying at home obviously.

We have a 3 bed house in Fruges, plus tunnel travel, for £338. Didn't think that was too bad for a week's holiday.

tbh we could have afforded it I am sure

I am just paranoid about my maternity pay stopping this month

Mercy · 14/10/2006 20:40

Like Enid, just chilling at home. dh can't get time off and we can't afford to go away now anyway.

Was hoping my mum would come up but she can't so it will just be the usual one or 2 friends for dd, bit of shopping with maybe a visit to a cafe, park etc

hulababy · 14/10/2006 20:41

Ah yes. I remember that stage. Much better once everything is stabalised again.

We used Welcome Cottages (used them lots before) and they have lots of reasonably priced places - for future reference

We're going to another part of the country tomorrow to see if it's a possibility to move the fuck out of here.

Just going Sunday-Tuesday.

Wed. taking DD1 to the castle for the Halloween stuff they have on.

Thursday and Friday enjoying life w/o my battleaxe of a boss around. Too bad she'll be coming back. I wouldn't mind if she took a permanent vacation somewhere. Like hell or that .

MumRum · 14/10/2006 20:46

Off to sunny Bournemouth in the caravan.... Can't wait....

HorrorMatopoeia · 14/10/2006 20:50

We're off to a little cottage just outside of Truro, really looking forward to it as didn't manage to get away over summer.
Will unfortunately probably spend the week thinking about hhow much I really do not want to go back to work though. I teach Hulababy, any ideas what I can do instead? Thinking of starting a thread entitled "What on earth am I qualified to do?"!!

HorrorMatopoeia · 14/10/2006 20:51

I'd like to point out that I don't teach Hulababy. . . . I teach, Hulababy! Damn those commas!

hulababy · 14/10/2006 20:54

HorrorMatopoeia - I now work in prison education. I no longer teach at all. I do one to one advice and support with prisoners. I am on a teaching contract though and need my teaching degree to do it. I get a salary which is almpst the same as teaching (top of main scale level), but not quite as high and I get 12 weeks holiday, but when I want them! Also my hours are more flexible and I got to chose them.

HorrorMatopoeia · 14/10/2006 20:57

It all sound good! I'm getting that itchy feet feeling, the one when you know it's time to move on and preferably far away! Sorry, I'll get rid of the dampner on your thread now! Sorry

bubble99 · 14/10/2006 20:58

I'll be having a baby.

Surfermum · 14/10/2006 21:00

DD (3.4) and I will go for a ride on the number 1 and number 2 bus. I took her on the number 3 and 4 buses recently as a treat, as we go everywhere by car. She thought it was great. We've decided we're going to try out all the buses.

hulababy · 14/10/2006 21:03

Good luck bubble

HorrorMatopoeia - I just had to get put completely in the end. MN was fantastic in the weeks running up to me actually resigning, and actually helped me make the final decision that I really did have tor esign immediately. Iread some of my old threads from that time, in education, and they are very

Awh Bubble I'm getting all broody just thinking about lo's! All the best.

Hulababy, I'm so totally there at the moment. Think I'll start that thread!

Bozza · 14/10/2006 21:23

Right we have the following planned - not as straight forward or relaxing as a lot of you.

Friday - break up, DH working, take 2 over-excited kids to Halloween disco
Saturday - hope DH gets back in time for me to take DS to his swimming lesson, DH take DD to a party, then we will swap children - wouldn't mind going to Blackpool to illuminations cos only day to fit it in
Sunday - day out with friends, details not yet arranged
Monday - meet up with my friend from Brum and her baby whom I am yet to meet
Tuesday - DD to nursery, DH working, me doing half a day, DS to holiday club (10.30-3 so will need to go to friends for a while first so I can fit in half a day) then collect DS and take him to MILs (1 hr drive), DH collect DD and give her tea and bed.
Wednesday - DD nursery, DH and I work, DH collect DS from MIL in the evening, I do DD's tea and bed
Thursday - work - DH day off to look after DS
Friday - all day off, family day out
Saturday - DS swimming lesson, DH golf
Sunday - birthday party 2 hours away
Monday - training day, my sister's 30th, go visit

nikkie · 14/10/2006 21:51

We are supposed to be going to presthaven but not sure if we are going to be able to as we are supposed to arrive on Friday and we can't now until Sunday, so it may be changing!

JennyLee · 14/10/2006 22:45
