I have just bought a new wireless router, a Netgear rangemax 834n as it is supposed to be able to support more wireless products and we have 5 macs on the go at the same time.

The problem I am having is it won't let me open google, I can open any other website. The old router was a Netgear 834g, so in theeory I should just be able to swap them over.

Any ideas?

Thank you

DH will be home around 6.30 - can ask him as he uses a lot of macs at work.....if no-one else can help in the meantime!.

lulumama · 14/10/2006 20:34

DH says try clearing the cache on each mac......hope that helps...

What browser are you using? Sounds like a sotfware problem if other websites are working? I run 3 different browsers as I find some browsers just don't like my mac.

alibubbles · 15/10/2006 09:08

I am using Safari or Firefox. DH uses IE. I have tried downloading an update to the software, which I have just found on the netgear site, which says it fixes this problem, so Philomena, you are right, but it says 'fail to mount' I don't know why that is either!

I have tried downloading it several times, icluding reinstalling the original software.

You shouldn't use IE on a mac anymore. They have stopped updating it and it's just going to get worse and worse.

Probably nothing to do with that i just thought i would mention it.

alibubbles · 15/10/2006 12:07

fairyfly, I keep telling DH that! I stopped using it a long time ago and use mainly Safari

Maybe you need to look at what version operating system you have? Perhaps the latest version of browser requires an update to your operating system?

Just a thought.

I am using 10.4.8 and everything else is up to date as I run software update automatically every week.

Where hub2dee, he is normally an expert on Mac's!

Absolutely no reason why it wouldn't allow access to one particular site unless you've set up a block to that domain (which you haven't).

I presume the download has sorted everything ?

I spent several hours trying to get a Netgear to log onto Talk Talk for a friend a few weeks back.... complete waste of time. She bought a Linksys and it took 2 minutes...

I'd just do a software update, Use Disk Utiltiy to verify permissions on your disk, turn everything off and leave for a few hours, come back and see if it's fixed.
