if you like it so much but it is never used would/could this ever be possible? Or just wierd, stupid and inconsiderate. Your thoughts please.....

I think the main problem with this issue is my DH, he's not particularly flexible and insists each child should have their own names - normally I would agree but for some silly reason I've become obsessive over THAT name, maybe because i can't have it!

Ah...Think you're onto a loser then i'm afraid.
What else do you like...there must be some other name.
I'll help you become obsessive about that instead

My first name is my sister's middle name, and my older brother's middle name is my younger brother's first name, so we all share!

is this a regional tradition? I know in Catholic countries e.g. Spain, a lot of girls have Maria as their first name and go by their second. Somehow to me, Mary and Maria would be less significant names to reuse, due to religious context than Violet, although I do love everything to do with violets, their colour, shape, smell, powdery, vintage associations so much that it might constitute a religion!!

I don't know about that, wafer, but dh is Welsh, and they all call each other by their middle names.

if it helps...i had a name i was pretty obsessive about for ds 1
..but chickened out at the last minute
regretted it a bit for 4 years...and then was all ready to use it when i got pg again (still started wavering at the end though!).
Had a daughter anyway...so never used it
And wierdly i don't like it now..it doesn't go well at all with our second name ..i just kidded myself it did coz i wanted it so much.

Troutpout · 16/10/2006 18:35

or just tell your dh that when he carries it for 9 months, he can choose

wafer · 16/10/2006 18:35

i'm going to try too, probably choose a`time when he couldn't say no, like during conractions...or sex!!

I'd just go for it, just insist on calling the baby what you want - you'll see it works out OK

mears · 17/10/2006 19:22

Isn't funny how we all like and dislike names so dramatically - my MIL is Violet and that is why I didn't choose it!

hushshessleeping · 17/10/2006 20:53

my MIL is Gloria, do you think that will ever come back into fashion!?
