Oh dear. Malc please don't go, seriously. If its cos you want to go because of personal reasons, fine. But if its because some of us are upset that 64 threads have gone, then please don't go. Yes I am upset about that, I hope you can see why that is a bit of a biggie to some of us. Many of us are genuinely not bothered, and thats great. I wish I wasnt bothered either, but I am. However I know its not the end of the world really, and I will get over it.
I don't blame you or have a problem with what you did at all. Under the circumstances you were in, it was totally rational and understandable. But I blame mumsnet - I think they were wrong to adhere to their rule of "OP can delete the thread" - on a one-off thread basis, that is sensible and fair. But on the basis of 64000 posts that form a cohesive community and have been co-written by 20-plus people, but purely through convention have been opened by one member, no I don't think thats fair. I think they should review their policy in cases of long-running communities like ours < Oliviamunsnet if youre reading>. They should not have put the decision to delete everything in your / your DHs hands, and they did.
I really hope you can see, my suggestion about taking turns to open the thread is 100% not a dig at or rejection of you. it's purely a sensible guarantor that it won't happen again in the future. Because no matter how unlikely, it is a possibility that it could happen again, under current mn policy, if one person only (not necessarily you) opens all the threads.
Malc please don't go. With all the upset recently, and literally after what people like badvoc and ww have just said above, you going will probably finish us off. You are THE reason we all came together. You're our north, our south, our east, our west. DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
